ES 6spd Shifter Bushing Users!! Step Inside!!

I just received my motor mount and shifter bushings from ES (o yes.. )
I've successfully installed the bushings for the frame under the shift ****.

but....

HOW IN THE WORLD DID YOU GUYS GET THE BUSHING INTO THE RING AT THE END OF THE SHIFTER CABLE! (under the hood)

i spent amount of time squeezing that crap in with my hands. But pretty soon i got dents in my thumbs that i could fit quarters in... and my arms went numb

i lubed up the bushing AND the ring, helped a lil' bit... but still no cigar.

I tried channel locks, but couldn't get both sides in at the same time.... and with the grease, it just kept popping out.

is there something i'm missing here? a special method... or am i just weaker than every other guy on the org. any help would be appreciated

(side note: i drove around with 50% of the shifter bushings in place, and i was quite pleased with the result.... i'm dying to finish this "quick" mod up)

I also used channel locks...they will work, you just need to squeeze at the exact position to install it. Be patient with it and use a rag over the bushing so you do not gouge it. Have patience, you can do it.

i had the same problem. I was pressing for so long my hands lost their feeling.
I had a friend of my father help me out, great mechanic. He literally popped them and squeezed with his bare hands. It made me feel like a total idiot, but i guess you get pretty good at this sort of stuff when your a mechanic for 30+ years. Yea, for normal people it's suggested you get some lithium grease, a friend to help you, and some pliars.

I got them in rather easy. Just used two pair of pliers and popped it right in. Remember to put white lithium grease in the hole of the bushing.

I used cahnnel locks and forced it in. Rubber bushings don't have to go in evenly on both sides. Just squeeze until one side starts to go in. Then squeeze the other side in. The bushing will center its self.
