The sound of bad struts?

I'm still trying to figure out what the annoying rattle is in the front suspension of my 2000 SE.

It's coming from the passenger side FRONT wheel area and seems to be getting worse. I've replaced the sway bar end link on that side, thinking that would fix it, but it hasn't gone away. When driving on rough roads, it sounds like that wheel is about to come off. (clunk, thunk, clunk, clunk....)

I took it to the local tire shop, they disconnected the sway bar on both ends and drove the car, said it wasn't the sway bar so it was probably the struts, then said it would cost me $1,200 for a set of four! Riiiiiight!

Is there anyway to confirm a bad front strut?

I have no drivability issues (i.e. bouncing) that is usually associated with a bad shock or strut......just a clunk

HELP!!!!

Real easy to test if you have a bad strut. Park the car and go to the corner of your car that you want to test. Push down with both hands on the car right above the wheel. Push down and release right away. If your car comes up immediately without any bounces, your strut is good. If your car bounces a little bit, your strut is bad.

The other way to check it is if you seek leaks in your strut.

Komax-
As I mentioned earlier...
[/QUOTEI have no drivability issues (i.e. bouncing) that is usually associated with a bad shock or strut......just a clunk]

I don't have any of those symptoms..

No oil leakage either, but if I stand at the pass. side front tire, put my foot on top of the tire (12 'O Clock) and give the car a good hard push, I can hear the clunk, but can find nothing loose when I lay under the car and have someone else do it.

I have the same sound. Took it to the dealer today. Of coarse they said they didn't hear anything. I have 33,000 mi. I also told them my left speaker cuts out when playing the CD. Once again they could not get it to happen, but they did order a new CD player it will be in next week. Freebie!
