Exhaust smell

I have just over 100k miles on my 2000 max. I noticed that exhaust smells funny lately. I haven't noticed any lost of power and haven't had SES light on. Someone told me it's could be a Cat. Any other suggestion?

It's hard to explain. It's not the usual gas smell. More like burned plastic mixed with welding smell.

Haha. On a longshot, maybe the air to fuel ratio is off?

Most likely a bad 02 sensor, creating the "rotten egg" smell....

your muffler may be bad, the smell may be the insulation burning.

I have the same problem (a little less often now). I took my Max to Nissan but thay tald me that it's not O2 sensor (I changed mine like 6 month ago) and it's not a cat but it's a addictive the gas company' s are adding for winter and since our cars are burning a little rich at high RPM that what smells.

May I recommend this product, it does wonders for my car.

It's a new product that's on sale at Pepboys or anyother automotive store.

I know it's not a muffler. I recently put Y-pipe and a custom cat-back.
do i need to go to a dealer to check O2 sensor? How do I check the Air/Fuel ratio?
