i just installed tien s tech springs and....

hey everyone i just installed tien springs on saturday the look is awesome but the ride is extemely horrible. i am using the factory struts could this cause it?? the only thing that i didnt do was cut the bumb stop. it feels as if the suspension is bottoming out on little bumps is that the problem(bump stop)? i am about to just put the factory springs back on if i cant get it to have a little more play. someone please let me know what i should do,( bump stop, struts) it really is unpleasant to drive

You should definitely cut the bumpstops on most setups over 1.5" drop and yours is around 2.2 so I'd definitely suggest that...Aftermarket suspension will be a must soon as well bc the factory struts can only last so long with such a large drop...MaximaPolak is running the same setup on stock struts maybe you could ask him for instructions on bumpstops bc he seems to be happy with it...if you get struts and I believe that you should, definitely get the Tokico Illuminas...it will make a world of difference but also you should know those springs are certainly not performance oriented or very ride friendly...but yes...they do create a very nice look

even w/ aftermarket struts, ride is harsh. Lot of potholes and bumps where you live?

springs

i too just installed tein s springs, about a month or so ago. i have factory struts and it rides ok. I have a '00 GLE, maybe the suspension is different from SE and GXE, idk. I took the factory stuff off myself, and then took the springs and struts to someone switch them, and then i put them back on. I'm not sure if they cut the bumps or not. When i first drove it it did seem a bit bumpy, but doesnt bottom out. I say give it awhile to get used to it. Then see....

whenever you lower a car, you should always cut the bumpstop in half. That will allow your shocks to have more suspension travel. I would recommend shocks also. The OEM struts don't last to long a such a large drop. Blown struts are dangerous too, i say replace ASAP

yeah i am goign to get a set of teins s techs soon and i wonder how the car will ride because i have H&R right now on stock struts. how much should bumpstop be cut? i never did that when i got my H&R. but i cant wait until the car is dropped even further. and i will pair them up with tokico illuminas.

im on s.techs with kyb gr2's and damn its a bouncy, bumpy, stiff ride! looking to swithc over to illumina's. so if you're looking to drop ur max on s.techs, i would try to stay away from the gr2's for struts and go with some adjustables like the illuminas. don't forget to cut them bumpstops too, this will def help out in suspension travel. try to avoid droppin it on your stock struts, those will only last for so long and then you'll be dishin out $$$ for more struts and install if you don't already install it yourself. best bet is to do it right the first time! i made the mistake of droppin mine on s.techs with gr2's- now i wish i woulda started with the illuminas. good luck s.tech rollers.

also some good info
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=291334

the lower you drop the more you cut off of the bumpstop
