got a price quote for $330 for one O2 sensor and ECU reprogram from dealer (P0138)

Hit the three year mark first...only 33700 miles on it. Dealer quoted me $416.50 to fix it. $179.00 for the part and 237.50 for labor. This is insane to me. Would this possibly be covered by the 8/80 in Illinois according to the bulletin? I want to go into the dealer with my guns loaded before I start raising hell about this. Thanks in advance for your time.

What the dealership told me is that technically the ecu programming is covered but the problem is the o2 sensor so since the ecu is not the root of the problem that the warranty does not apply. Just the typical run around at the dealer.

in this case they have it backwards.
as you can see in the claims coding section of the bulletin under pfp (primary failed part) it states: reference the final consult II printout and use the new ECM number as the pfp.
the original programming of the ecm has a flaw in it which causes the rear o2 sensors to work overtime, killing them - this is what causes the CEL
also just to clarify: all A33 maximas have 2 rear o2 sensors - EXCEPT for 2000 MY maximas with federal emissions - they only have 1

I just had this done on my 02 SE Auto at 44K miles. I had the P0138 code. My dealer in NH replaced both rear O2 sensors and reprogrammed the ECU per the TSB NTB02-051a. No charge because its covered under the emissions warranty is what they told me. Why are some dealers having such a hard time with this? Are they clueless or just unethical?
Hmmmnnn...where did you hear this?
That makes sense vs. the ECU tight tolerance/aging cat theory of mine.

Thanks, one other particular question i had was about this i saw in the TSB shows that for replacing the O2 sensors, "Reference to current Nissan Warranty Flat Rate Manual and use the indicated FRT"
what does that exaclty mean? is that to say that 02 sensros are covered based on standard warranty?
FRT stands for Flat Rate Time
it just means that you need to reference the book for the appropriate labor time to use. 0.7 for the reprogram and 0.7 for the 2 rear o2 sensors - so 1.4 hours total x whatever the warranty labor rate at the dealership happens to be (varies).
cash time would probably be in the 2-2.5 hour range x the dealership's cash labor rate.

I have this problem and am in the process of fighting with my dealership about it, in addition my 2002 has the old mass air flow sensor, which also needs to be changed per NTB03-022. I was wondering if this would be covered under the 8/80 warranty as the PFP is ECM #.
