Leaking Valve Cover Gasket... =(

Today I went to change my sparkplugs, flush my tranny with MT-90 fluid, oil filter, change oil to Mobil 1, etc... I was doing this for peace of mind since I got the car from a dealer in Atlanta and before I started installing my mods, I wanted to have fresh parts/fluids in the car. Anyways, I took the car to a very trusted mechanic of ours to do the changes. I sat at the shop and watched him do the work and when we pulled out sparkplug from cyl #5 it was covered in oil... He told me it was a leaking valve cover gasket and he recommended that I changed them both (from both cyl banks)... The car has 38,xxx miles and I just called a local $tealer$hip where I know some people... The guy I know told me to bring it in on Monday so that they could look at it... Lets see what happens. For all you mechanics out there, the fact that oil is in the cyl area means that I have a leaking gasket, correct? I want to go to the dealer with this information. I kept my old plugs as well...

Edit: I forgot to mention that the dealer told me the valve covers and all that jazz have 5 year, 50,000 mile warranty... In other words, im taking it back to the dealer to have it serviced under warranty.

It seems to be an issue with the 5.5 gen of leaking spark plug seals in the rear bank. I replaced my rear valve cover about 4-5 months ago because I found oil in one of the rear spark plug chambers.

I had the same problem. I ordered the 2004 Maxima valve covers and they were identical to the ones that came off my 02. They were like $28.00 each vs. $96 for the 2002.

This is what happens when you have plastic composite valve covers. Your spark plug gromets on the valve cover are leaking.
