Gas Gauge promblema
Whats up guys and girls (if theres any)? So i went out and got a used 2001 Nissan Maxima SE. Its automatic (i know i am a wuss), black on black leather. The car sweet, which i am sure you guys already know from your own. Can't believe how good the factory stereo is. Anyways i found the car through auto trader and traveled from michigan to chicago to pick it up. My step dad and I checked it out, took it for a drive and all seemed well. One of the center wheel covers was missing (anyone know where i can get one?) which made me mad, but one test drive in it and i was sold. On our way home i ran out of gas. Thought maybe i had bad gas, came to find out my gas gauge is whack. The thing sticks at 3 guarters of a tank. So yes i got screwed by the used salesman, normally my buddies and i would travel back and have a little "talk" with the guy but i love the car too much. Its just past 60,000 miles with a warrenty to 160,000 on the engine and the tranny. So i was wondering if any of you guys have had problems with the gas guage and if so how much does it run to fix? Thanks guys

One of two things happened:
1. The sensing unit in the tank is bad (doesn't happen often, but can happen in any car)
or
2. The little servo that controls that gauge needle is broken. This happened to me when I had to take the needles off the gauges to do some custom stuff.....
Since you're new, I will give you some advice: If you have to get a new part (gauge cluster - $150 or so, fuel sensing unit -not sure of $$, or even center cap - like $20) call DAVE B (real name: Dave Burnette). He works at a Nissan dealer in Texas and gives the BEST prices anywhere to maxima.org members. If you look above in the "STICKY" threads, Dave's number is in there somewhere. He will give you good "no-BS" advice about what to get and give you great prices and fast shipping, and is a great guy to deal with overall.
First though, you should go to your local dealer and have them diagnose the problem...(of the things I mentioned above), and then go from there.
You can definitely get the center cap from him
