You need to bring the RPMs up- REV match the engine to the speed of the car in order to pop the tranny into 1st gear while rolling. All Nissan FWD trannies are like this. My old tranny was doing that, and my brand new- 5 day old 200 miles on it so far 5spd tranny does the same thing. I can put my tranny into 1st up to 40MPH- by rev matching it. I belive this is in your owners manual.

well you said it happens when your standing still and trying to get it in to 1st right? That sounds like your throw out bearing is bad. I have had that before. It just means you need to get a new clutch and throw out bearing kit and change it up.

it takes some practice to get a smooth downshift into 1st without over reving the engine. Basically at 15MPH you should rev match it to around 300RPM and see if she goes in smooth. On mine 42MPH is max velocity in 1st gear, I just did some hard driving today on a test track- oval behind my work where we test NSXs and RSXs for customer complains. I was chassing a GTO around the track today, it was fun sitting on his rear bumper all the time till he waved me by :P If you have trouble with getting it into 1st when stopped it could be a few things- master cylinder, slave cylinder or a throw out bearing. I had a issue with my slave leaking not too long ago- I got 103K miles on mine.

hmm so i think ill just work on my switching/rev matching because im pretty sure that nothing is wrong wit the master or slave cylinders and the bearings are fine too

I've got the same problem sometimes and my 02 Max only has 18K miles - I'll have to try rev matching
