Did some checking of my hood since it's winter here and been driving around with it on. I got three cracks around the hoodpin but nowhere else. I will take pics later.

 

you arent supposed to use pins with them, thats why

 

they say to, i think it says on the hood itself too, on the VIS stamp.

 

Yes put would rather trust the pins then the latch.

 

That hood is so light the wind can knock it over, of course you need pins, that's like asking if a maxima can run on diesel

 

is there other alternatives to pins or like low profile? im noob when it comes to carbon fiber hood

 

today it was really friggin windy, and it was creepy to watch my hood moving around like that. maxpol and a few others have the VIS without pins and they say they are ok. i dont think there are any alternatives to hood pins, just the stock latch.

 

i wonder if the crack are because you drilled for the hood pins and if there is anything you can putlike a sealer in the hole that was drilled.

What I mean is you drill the hole but now the hole is exposed to the elements. Can you put like apoxy and let it dry on the wall of the holes that were drilled.

 

Yeah but why risk the danger of your hood flying off on the highway!? Just get pins, it's not like it's gonna make the hood look bad, and at least you'll be safe..I never knew people actually drove around, especially at high speeds, with a cf hood that wasn't securely in place. I mean you need something to help keep it locked down, hence the reason why people use hood pins..Up to you man, it's your life and car..No offense man, but that's pretty stupid and unsafe to be driving with a hood fluttering around..

 

as much as i love carbon fibre, you are pretty much screwed from the beginning. carbon fibre, even when new, can develop microscopic stress fractures that grow with applied stress. i'm surprised that this cracked hood hasn't been spoken about more often on more cars on the .org.
don't get me wrong, i would love to get one of these on my max, because it looks great. but i would always be nervous that the thing is going to break if i hit a pothole.
as for the hood movement, depending on how much bounce the hood has (like if you have an inch of hood travel), try using metal washers with rubber seals between them. the rubber seals might reduce stress on the hood by providing a little cushion.

 

I am going to look closer but it could be just the resin that cracked.

No you see them. I have a way I can deal with it, and thats paint the sides of the hood like the copper max had.

 

I've driven with my ViS hood...over 120MPH ( ) and it's ok...I didn't think you'd need the pins so I didn't use them...sux man. Maybe it's a defective hood.

 

You definitely need pins with any CF hood...

I aint got no hood pins- even thou I bought a set and never installed them. VIS hoods are high quality and I see them on cars with no pins holding them all the time. I have had my hood on my car for a long time now- gonna be 9 months or so (previous one lasted like a year n half till a lil accident), and the hood vibrates as much or less than the stock hood and just looks PIMP on a black car. Even at speeds where most of you wouldn't be able to reach.

 

i have a cf hood without hood pins and i've been @ 140mph with no problems......

 

Hey don't lie that first hood has pins in them, and they are still in there!

deng that bites.. sorry to hear that man.. for those of u that read this, don't drill into the hood for the screws, don't even use the screws, just get some industrial strength 3M double sided tape and tape the mounts on.

 

What I should of done after I drilled the holes was to apply resin around the holes that I drilled which I didn't. My simple fix is going to paint the sides like the copper max. I doesn't bother me that much.
