foglights + yellow capsuls + 5000K HID bulbs ...Pics
This has been on my to do list for a while, finally got around to late last night . Had the 5000K bulbs/ballasts and capsules just sitting around for a while, But removing the fog lights is such a pain in the *** - for some reason my passenger fog light wont come loose without a fight, dam near push the bumper off every time, trying to get it to release
Rather than drill the reflector for tabs/screws or use JB weld to secure the yellow (H4) capsule , I used the (chrome) bulb shroud to keep it in place, It works awesome. I figure using the shroud w/ the top trimmed off would be a good idea for a couple of reasons:
-There is nothing obstructing the light from the top of the bulb, this is the light that gets reflected onto road.
-There is a piece of metal obstructing the light coming from the bottom of the bulb, this is the light that gets reflected and causes glare. They have awesome ouput and don’t glare.
-When I had the amber capsules (fogs in signature), I did not use the bulb shroud, just bulbs and capsules. During the day w/ the lights off, sunlight passing through the capsules made the fog lights looked orange inside, but w/ the shroud enough light is blocked to keep the fogs look clear during the day.

Pic I took this morning, and yes that fresh snow got about 8” last night
After de-icing and a quick wipe down.
I will post some output shots tonight after I aim them.

And now for the good stuff:
The driver side fog light is OEM, passenger is aftermarket replacement put on by body shop , they look identical but as can be seen in some of the pics, the OEM appears to give a much better pattern.

the MDX retro fit doesnt take long, a safe estimate for someone doing it for the first time using my writeup(on my homepage) would be 3-4 hrs start to finish, and longer if while the headlights are apart, you also replace the leds in the Halo's and add clear lenses.
The fog lights shouldnt have taken as long as they did, but I just had one thing after another slow me down. I.E.-Passesnger fog light is dam near impossable to free from holder, but once removed securing the yellow capsule in the fogs was easy.
Also all the wiring for ballasts/igniters/bulbs was donr out of the car, so (in theory) I would just have to plug in and secure the ballast. This backfired b/c rather than use plugs to connect the ballasts to igniters and AMP conecters to join igniter to bulb, i soldered and used crimps. Some of those connections had to be cut and then redone to get the fogs & ballast in place.
And finaly compound those things with the fact that the entire install was done w/ a flashlight in my mouth at night in 10 degree weather ,with 6" of fresh powder on the ground while it was snowing very ,very hard. If this was done with the propper plugs and connecters, on a nice spring day it would have went real fast

a lot shorter Dr. Roy cause of your awesome write up. Took me 40 minutes including bake time (granted I have the halogen h9 bulbs still). the write up is very informative. The leds take a lot of patience though.

just beautiful, i'm at school and can't really put much attention to this since i now have to leave for class...but once i get home i gotta look into this more since i was gonna do irish's write up, i don't have hids but i can still try and change some things around since i haven't drilled yet

does anyone think it would be possible/not much of a hassle to do this same setup but without hids...without h3's and something to give off more power/light since our h3's are only 55w? say for instance i have some 9006 yellow capsuls. would it be too much to use some 9006 bulbs in my fogs?
