Noise Noise Noise...WTF
Sup Folks...
I thought I had come across a thread with this info in it, but I have searched and can't find it...
When I start my car in the morn, and the rpm's lower to idle, I hear a little rattle at the end. It only happens when you start it when it's cold, and only the first time you crank the car...Any ideas???

mine does the same thing...there's a TSB out on it...look here:
http://www.infinitihelp.com/Ownershi.../NTB03-060.htm
good luck on getting a dealer to fix it though, because mine does it every morning and i've left my car over night at the dealer twice and they keep saying they "cant reproduce the problem"...just find a dealer you like and trust (if there are any)

I feel your pain as I am experiencing the same problem (with both the car and the dealer). I am going to have to end up taking a half-day off from work to be present because apparently it only makes the sound when I turn the key. Its pissing me off beyond all explanation, but I suppose that I can understand why they do it if it comes down from the top as an order. I put my own post out prior to yours explaining my situation and many other org members replyed that they have gone through the same senario. It should be covered under the power trane warranty.

I wouldn't describe it as a rattle so much, but I definitely have the same problem. Apparently the starter needs to be disassembled and greased? Sounds like a pain.

Anyway, the only way I can see to get the dealer to replicate this is to leave your car at the dealer overnight, and take the key home. Then go back with somebody else when they're open in the morning and have them come out with you and you start the car. Just make sure it's a cold morning.

You have the (VTC sprocket) TSB issue... I am 100% sure. Have you ever been spinning something metal, like a wheel on an axle - etc., and it all of a sudden goes off balance and stops real fast.... thats the way it sounds to me personally. Just a real busy nasty metalic rattle and its the very worst on cold mornings or after it has been sitting several hours in the cold. It will only last for 1 or 2 seconds. It will almost never do it a 2nd time after you have run the engine unless its like 1 degree outside and you only ran the engine for a few seconds the first time. Plan on leaving the car at a dealer overnight and meeting them in the morning so that the bio electric unique energy in your body can be transfered through your fingers and the key and through the frame of the car and in turn cause it to make the sound since it never happens to Nissan employees. Oh.... and here is some more BS crap. The TSB only calls for them to replace the sprocket which they hear is causing the noise. SO... if you can talk them into replacing both Nissan recognized defective parts then you should be all set. If not, I suspect we will all be back in after a month or 2 for them to tell us that they cant duplicate the problem with the other cylinder bank's VTC sprocket. That will be about the time that I throw my over priced Starbucks coffee on the DSM's shoes and go buy a Toyota. Anyway...sorry for the venting guys.

If so many people are having this problem, Im amazed that this hasn't reached a "recall" status...But then again, I guess they haven't received and logged enough call for it to reach that point. Speaking of which, I think Im gonna call..hehe...that'll be one more call to log...wishful thinking!

Maxilvr06... on my first attempt to get them to fix this issue I asked to make sure that it was covered under the 5/60 and the advisor said yes "what ever that is worth".
Update on my effort to have this resoved:
On friday I took my car in my car in and explained to them that it will need to be started in the morning in order for this sound to be duplicated. The advisor then told me with a smile on his face that the first available 8am appointment would be the 26th of march or 3 weeks away. As he was scheduling the appoinment for me on his computer I made a call on my cell phone to my girl friend who left work early in order to pick me up. The second he realized that I was making a phone call he all of a sudden stopped what he was doing on the computer and yelled at me for me to give him my last name cutting me conversation off 3 times "having heard and being aware that the coversation was directly related to him and the dealership". So that was kind of the last straw. I called Nissan Customer Service and supposivly I am having some regional manager call me on Monday to work this out. I am not holding my breath needless to say.
