how do u know if a sensor is bad

how can u tell if u have a bad o2 sensors besides the consult saying one isnt working. my car seems ok but it seems when i goto the dealership to get a code looked at. the o2 sensors keep poping up even when there was no problem before.

What exactly is happening... If the car keeps throwing a code, then there's a probelm with the sensor. I don't get what you say "it seems when i goto the dealership to get a code looked at. the o2 sensors keep poping up even when there was no problem before."

If they keep popping up then there is a problem...

hey man if ur worried about ur o2 sensors this is how u can tell--take consult and go into data monitor and pick ho2s1-b1 and ho2s2-b1 then pick ho2s1-b2 and ho2s2-b2--if u select them in this order u will have one band on the screen--u have to change the display to line graph and then hit the startu should have front and rear sensor for b1 on the screen--watch the lines -u can tell acouple of things doing this--how good ur cat is and if the sensors are working-the rear o2 sensor should not move as much as the front if the rear looks just like the front more than likely ur cat is bad(make sure to check at idle and 2500rpm.) but if the front switches a lot then it is good if iits stuck around .3v then the o2 sensor is bad(.3 volts is ref voltage----thats how I use the Consult(consult 2)

what i think is happening is the guy not knowing what he is talking about lol. i go to a small delership right next to my house and they let me use the consult to check the codes. i just put headers on. and the rear o2 sensors werent working right i fixed one by changing the wires around but the other one i think the sensor was bad i replased it with a none nissan but a bosh one from auto zone. now both are throwing again were before it was just one. but the guy at a different dealership were i needed to servise the tranny or as they said get a new one wich is under warrenty. they said all 4 were bad but i think its the rear ones just throw 2 codes like a heater and something else he trew it away before i could see it. but on thursday my buddy by me is gunna let me get the codes and i will post an update then and maybe someone can help me understand if its the rears or fronts or both and if its just rears maybe its the cat idk but ill just use my simulator thanx for the help tho.

I hate to burst your bubble, but you're 100% totally wong on this reply. Maybe with a Knock sensor...... yes you will be looking for a yes or no signal. An o2 sensor will constanly change from rich to lean. This is how the computer tests the sensors to know if they're working right.

I dought you have access to a scan tool, but if you did.... do a data stream and watch your 02 sensors. Many things can set off an 02 sensor besides just having a bad one. Too bad cars these days have heated 02 sensors that cost about $150. A few years ago they were only like $30. If you replaced one and it didn't fix the problem then it was no big deal.

I know my comment didn't do you much good and at the moment I'm too lazy to look up how to test them without a scan tool. Maybe someone else before I can get back can answer your question.
