tint removal

I want to redo the tint on my car because its starting to turn purplish but the guy at the tint shop said he couldnt remove the tint off the rear window because it would take way to long and would probably damage the defroster lines. It there any other way to do it without scraping it off? I heard theres a method using ammonia but I'm not sure how it works. I could just do the side windows but then the color wouldnt match the rear and it would look even worse. I'm gonna check out another shop this weekend to see what they say. Has anyone had their tint removed off the rear window before, and if so how? Or am i basically stuck with the tint I have now?

it has to be scraped...there is a chemical for tint that you spray on the film and lay plastic over the it to "sweat" it off... if they lines are broken most tint shops sell defroster repair kits.. i know this because i worked at a window film distribution center and we sold them to shops all the time...

easy... first get a trash bag... cut it open. now you need get a spray bottle with water. spray the window and then put the trash bag up against the window. hopefully the sun is out. what you are doing is trappin sunlight between the window and tint to relieve the adhesive on the tint. most of it should come off. the remaing glue, get real fine steel wool and scape it off... be sure to sure soap and water on your FINE STEEL WOOL... fine steel wool does not scratch the window. recently, i have heard that instead of using water between the window and tint, spray vinegar. i have not tried that method so i could not tell you. but i have done the water & trash bag trick.

just pay someone like $30 to have it remove. I tried to take the tint off my old car and just teared a peice of the defroster out and I had to get a friend to install new defrosters and it took like 3 hrs. Also it's not easy to remove cheap window tints, I suggest u pay a little bit more and get the tints with a lifetime warrenty. Those will not turn purple or blue over time.

I've scraped it.. with a razor.. in between the defrost lines. PITA x infinity. Took me 5 hours to get it off but i saved my defrosters.

Spray chemical, scrape. Spray, scrape. Repeat about 54000 times.

Spray, wipe with a towel. Repat about 2000 times..

give it a final wash with window cleaner.. you are good to go.
