s-tech springs

I've heard from members that the s-tech's are pretty bouncy. Would having the Illumina's and being able to adjust the stiffness help out the bouncyness a lot or just minimal?

S-Techs are really not bouncy, i have the illuminas as well and you can adjust the stiffening of the shocks, I love the ride, its smooth on the freeway and roads but when it comes to pot holes and dips, you can feel it but otherwise it looks good, check out my cardomain for more pics!!!

I think he meant in his decision process not actual installed springs, but we'll have to hear from him.

haha yea. those were my chioces. my options now are either the progress or s-tech's. anyone else there with s-tech's on an 02? if the settings on the illumina's will help the bounciness then i think i'm giong to go with the s-tech's. hopefully its not too low for philly

i drive in los angeles a lot, where the roads are horrid, i mean if your naturally not a cautious driver dont get stiff springs/shocks, but if your used to driving slammed cars for a period of time, id say get them. the car previous to this was my 2 door legend dropped 2.75inches in the front and 2.5in the back on koni adjustables all around...and i didnt mind the ride that much, partially because my seats were like couches. haha

If this is your very first time, you won't like it; if you live in an area w/ bad roads that is

I've ridden in a WRX with S-Techs and they are harsher than the Progress ride (I have Progress springs myself, and I've ridden in another WRX with Progress springs; both WRXs had the same struts), but I wouldn't say they're bouncier... but then it does depend on what struts ya have too....

I actually think that LA roads, both downtown and elsewhere are much better than the roads around DC and Philly... well maybe except for 110 (I think, its that old highway, whatever it is) that goes North towards/around Pasadena or La Canada (sorry if I'm off, but its been a while)... those were some crappy roads...

I had S-Techs and KYB GR-2s. I regretted that decision for about 1-2 months and promptly went back to stock. The car bounced around like crazy and you felt every bump in the road. The handling was unpredictable because it was so bouncy.

I'm now on H-Techs and Illuminas and am very happy. Still feel a lot of bumps, but it's very tolerable compared to the first aftermarket setup I had.

This is my experience, and my opinion from my experience - but S-Techs are worthless springs. They look great but not much else. I'm sure others will differ, but that's the name of the opinion game.

do u think it would have been less bouncier and better handling if you had the illumina's instead of the kyb gr-2's?

No. Struts absorb impact. Springs compress up and down after impact. A spring determines impact rebound. Struts determine shock absorbancy.

But don't springs vary in terms of the impact rebound as well?

Most of the streets, where I live, are horrible. I am also on stock struts and the ride is very livable. You can feel almost the whole road. I really do like them.

Generally, the lower you go, the harsher your ride will be. But it's not entirely the spring's fault, because struts just can't compensate for a car going as low as S-Techs. So it's not the springs that are harsh themselves, it's the fact that they bring the car down too much.

if i had to do it again, i would save some money and get jic coilovers. after close to 10k miles on s-tech/kyb gr2's the ride is getting a little bouncy. if you want your car to look nice for a few months then sure go for s-tech's, but if you intend to keep the car longer then go for something else.
also, keep in mind that during winter you wouldn't want your car soo low.

I had the S-tech/KYB combo and the ride was pretty harsh. It wasn't bouncy in my opinion just a rough ride. I recently bought some Illumina's and it's a night and day difference! The ride is soooo much better now.

thanks alot for your opinion guys. i think i'm going to go with the s-tech's and illumin'as. it seems that as long as you have the illumina's at the right setting the ride is not bouncy. hopefully i will like this setup. now just gotta find the cheapest place they sell them haha
