Cai Runs Like Crap
Cai Runs Like Crap
I Put My Cai Intake In This Weekend And Car Runs Like Crap Under Wot .bogs At 4500 Rpm.runs Ok Uner Normal Driving.thinking Mass So I Put Back Stillin Wai Can Runs Like A Rapped Ape To Red Line No Problem.anybody Have Any Ideas?tried Disconecting Battery 1 Hour No Help.i Would Think It Would Run Better With Cai Then Wai.

I think you're trying to say that the car runs fast with a WAI but like crap with a CAI. It's not surprising that the WAI seems to feel better, since there is some evidence to suggest that the gains with a WAI are slightly better than the gains with a CAI. A while back, an Org member who tried both types of intake posted dyno charts.
Each style of intake produces gains (and sometimes losses) in different parts of the powerband, so it's entirely possible that your butt dyno feels a difference between the CAI and the WAI. Truthfully speaking, neither style of intake alone is going to produce dramatic power gains. Maybe you feel like your Maxima runs like crap with a CAI because the sound isn't as sexy. Maybe you just don't feel the car pulling as hard at certain RPMs with the CAI as it did with the WAI. If it's not just in your mind, and your car REALLY IS running like crap when you install the "CAI," then maybe the CAI or filter is designed very poorly. What diameter is the piping? What kind of filter is on it? Most of the "cold air intakes" for the Maxima are actually just long warm air intakes anyway. A few, like the Place Racing CAI, actually draw air from a cooler area outside the engine bay.
If the intake itself isn't designed badly, you could be seeing the beginning of MAF sensor problems. I don't know if this is really a likely scenario, considering that your car seems to run fine with the WAI installed.

To realize true gains from a CAI- and NOT an INJEN CAI- its NOT a CAI, you need to hit up a traffic jam when its 100F outside, AC on. Place Racing sucks its air from the fender well where the heat from the engine doesn't reach it. Injen sucks all that 150+F air from you engine fans that are on. You realize the radiator is around 200F at all times when its hot out. Injen sits right behind the fans, AC on the fans are on also.... now you get the idea WHY INJEN is just a waste of 300 bux or whatever the outrageous amount of $$$ it costs. WAI intakes are the same way, cause underhood temps get reallllly high. For MAX power I would remove the fog light while racing- since Place Racing puts the filter right in that area.
Oh BTW get a new MAF.
