Alarm?

Recently i got my max, and when i bought it (used) it came with a viper alarm(790 model). my mechanic today told me to get rid of that b/c on the long run that will be giving me problems. he just said to go to the dealer and get the original remote control and just used the factory alarm....He said that after a while that alarm can cause comp. problems. is there any teruth in that?...any info will be appreciated!

problems? i don't think so, unless it's a faulty alarm. check the specs of the model you have, if you have some good features keep it. no need to spend more money. does your mechanic do any alarm installs? most just don't want to mess with it in case something goes wrong. research what you have and what it can do for you.

There is absolutely no truth in that. I install for Circuit City, thats complete crap. The only thing I would do if I were you, is if that remote has been abused or dropped at all, get the newer model remote (the blue one), since those remotes were sometimes known for problems. A coworker had the 790xv in his civic, bypassed so it would start in any gear. Left it in gear, and he put his remote down on the counter when he walked into our shop. His car parked outside the install bay drove right into the gaurd railing for the loading dock. Not saying this will happen to you, because if installed properly our cars will only remote start in neutral, but just something to be aware of. These remotes arent cheap however, so just make sure your alarm is installed properly and wont remote start in gear or anything, and youll be okay

P.S., All DEI alarm brains themselves have a lifetime warranty when installed by an authorized dealer, so it might be in your good interest for a few reasons to see if you can track down who installed it.
