Crap. Expensive lunch hour. Suggestions?

Just a simple trip to drop by Wal-Mart to pick up a 2 dollar item and what do I do? Back into a cart. Smooooth. So now I have this awesome black stripe down the center of my bumper because some moron is too lazy to use the cart rack and I'm too blind to see the cart that is below spoiler height.

Anyway, I assume my only option is to get the entire bumper sprayed which I'm sure won't be cheap. Any guesses?

The stripe is less than 1/8" wide and about 4" tall. My dad suggested getting a body shop to mix me a can of paint and spraying it in many light coats. Anyone tried such a thing? I imagine I'd need a can of clearcoat to spray as well.

Any suggestions from those who have been there would be great. I haven't backed into anything since I was 16. Guess I'm on a once every 10 years rotation. Could be worse.

Actually, good question. It's not a scratch, it actually appears to have removed paint down to the black plastic bumper - or primer - not sure which. I don't think it's just a scuff since my car is silver and the spot is black and lower than the surrounding paint.

I dont know if this works at wal-mart, but have you complained to them? You can say a stray cart hit your car. I think Publix or Kroger in my area takes responsibility if a cart hit your car their parking lot. It may be hard to prove after the fact, however.
As far as your questions, sorry no idea.

I'd thought of that, but iIIRC they have signs on all their cart corralls that say they're not liable for damage.

I used to work as a supervisor at a Kroger, and I've also worked at Publix. Both stores will take limited responsibility for damage caused by stray carts in their lots. I agree with UGAd13. You should see if Walmart will offer you any help. If you have trouble proving it, they should have the incident on their parking lot cameras (if it wasn't TOO long ago).

I know exactly what you mean......I was backing out of my driveway the other week and my roommate had parked where I could not see him. As soon as I turned the wheel and reversed what seemed like a foot, I had already bumped his front bumper with my rear. There was no physical damage, however the paint had splintered and flaked. I took it to a reputable autobody place that I know and it cost me $370 to get it done. I know that some would complain that I got ripped, but I was more concerned with a perfect repair. I have a silver Maxima JUST like your, so you already know that its a bit difficult to get the color match perfectly. Anyhow, they had to remove the bumper, sand down all the splintered paint, repaint, and put a clear coat over the entire bumper. All in all, I am happy with the workmanship, however, I am still kinda pissed that this could have been avoided had my roommate not parked in the worst spot possible. Im done rambling. Good luck with your repair. You have a beautiful car by the way.

$370? Yow. I'm not bothering if it's even near that. I'll just hope somebody rear ends me soon and they can pay for it! Thanks for the input though.

hmmm i'm lucky i guess price wise ...i closed the garage door on the back of my car last summer and i'm positive i had much more damage than you (metal handle sticks out that hit it and for some reason laser didn't stop the door bc it was in just enough to not be in its way)...my neighbor (nissan dealership owner) had it bondo and painted over for $260 and it matched perfectly of course and i had it the next day...i also don't see why ppl spend like $300+...worst case you can get a rear bumper cover for $145 and get it painted at a good shop for around $150 which is right at 300

It mite look liek a scatrch but if it scuffed you might be able to take Laquer Thinner and get it out try it out if its not a deep scratch but just a blemish.
