Oil Filter Magnet....

Am I insane or do I remember talk of a magnet that goes on your oil filter to catch any metalic particles that may be in your oil. anyone?

Some oil drain plugs have magnetic tips, but I am not sure if ours does. Never heard of filters having anything magnetic...

Interesting...boy those magnets are'nt cheap either...75 to 130 bucks? Looks like it would work good though

Actually, if I can recall from when I dropped my oil pan to clean it out, there are 2 magnets on the pan. Both of mine had metal shavings on them.

Thats in Australian dollars, not US dollars. After converting it, it ends up being $59.48 or so for the SS250, which fits the SDF13 from Amsoil.

just get a magnet and stuck onto the filter for some time. Wouldn't that work?

That might work, but keep in mind the design of the filtermag type. It wraps around the filter itself. I wonder how efficient just a magnet would be. I thought of that too, but it would seem kinda impractical. Its really not that expensive and its a one time expense.
