Nissan Free 100 Point Inspection

Well, it's that time of year again. Anyone get this done (this year or last)? Impressions?

I know I can do this for free myself, but was wondering if anyone had any issues with this...was the report accurate? was the dealership pushy? did they miss anything?

What 100 point inspection? I guess in MD, the stealerships don't like to do anything for free!

I got one. Just another marketing ploy to bring you in so they can sell you overpriced work. If you can do the job yourself, why risk the chance they may break something or "find" something "wrong"? I may bring it in, and if they do find something, I'll fix it myself.

Yeah, these things are so patently obvious as a means to bring you in and find things wrong on the car.

I did this in October when I had the front brakes replaced. I think that the dealership I went to was pretty honest. They said everything checked out except that I needed to have the radiator flushed.

Thats what I'm hoping for...an honest assessment of the car so I can fix what is wrong on my own.

Just check what has to be done in your owner's manual and do it yourself or take it to a reliable mechanic... they can usually do that for a quarter of the price... I dropped $400 on my 30,000 mile check-up before I knew better and found out later I coulda done it at Firestone for less than $100....

I already do that...I'm leaning more toward them telling me the life sign of my cv boots, brakes, tires, coolant, hoses, belts, exhaust, shocks, etc in an afternoon. Sure I could check all that myself, but it would take longer than the hour it will take them.

Once I have the list, I can inspect where they claim there to be problem areas and decide to replace. I just want to know if they give a reliable list or if most folks found the dealership just threw darts at a dart board and told you things that needed to be replaced.

Since I work at a Nissan dealership, I will try to clear up some issues.

The inspection is COMPLETLY free, any dealership that tries to charge for this is stealing IMO.
The inspection only takes approximately 20 mins.
The inspection is done FOR the customer, not to screw the customer.
Although us Technicians would love to "sell the work" the inspection is for "RECOMMENDED REPAIRS"

I am only going by personal experience at my dealership.

it's a scam most of the time to lure you into doing maintenance service at the dealership. similar to the ploy the dealers use when they send out mailing regaring strong interest from potential buyers for your used maxima

get a Haynes manual, and you can do the "100-point inspection" in about an hour, easily. I'm not saying the dealer is necessarily scamming you with the inspecion, but they certainly use it for 2 things:

1. to get you hanging around the dealer waiting, and in the meantime, looking at the shiny new cars on the showroom floor that you *really* want.
2. to tell you things that "could" be replaced/fluids that "could" be filled. They're counting on you being LAZY (like many people are) and paying them $10 to top off your washer fluid and things like that. If you are indeed lazy, go for it. If you would rather spend an hour checking your car yourself rather than sitting around a dealer waiting (or worse, dropping off the car), then don't. It's that simple.

btw, I totally trust my local dealers, they are 1st rate IMO - but I still only take the car in when I KNOW a problem exists and when it's covered under warranty. Once my warranty is up, my car will never see a dealer again, period.

Funny thing.... I went to get my mail today and what do I see? COMPLIMENTARY 100 POINT INSPECTION AT YOUR NEAREST NISSAN DEALERSHIP!!

If it really is free, I might check it out... but then again, I'd have to take some mods off... might be too much trouble....

If you say that your car won't need a dealer after warranty is up, I agree. But what I wonder about is, what if it needs ECU reprogram or anything to do with Consult II? Do you know of any other places other then Nissan Dealer, that provide that service?
