Fog Light Mod

I did my foglight mod about 2 days ago. It was a success. Now I can turn on my fogs withhout turning on my headlights. AllI need to do is to turn on the parking lights then turn the fogs on. Cool!

My next mod is to remove the reverse light on the left hand side of the car and replace it with a rear red foglight for severe weather ONLY. I already have all the neccessry wiring from an actual rear fog light kit, all I need to do is to cut the wires that lead to the foglight itself which came with the kit and replace it with a red LED that can fit into the reverse light cluster. I will post some pics when everything has been completed.

So you will have one reverse light and one rear fog? Won't that not be enough coverage?

That's correct ABDomega there will be one reverse light on the right hand side and a fog on the left hand side. Of course if this becomes a problem at inspection time all I need to do is a quick swap by simply unscrewing the foglight and installing the original reverse light. All the stock reverse light wires will still be in place tucked away. So it's a simple plug and play either way. But I am not worried about visibility when reversing with only the one remaining light. A higher wattage bulb will fix that problem.

I did the same with the left reverse light. I replaced the bulb with red LED, but I had to slightly enlarge the hole for the LED and use different socket. For the right reverse light I used higher wattage bulb. I had to do it because it’s mandatory in Europe and I didn’t want to put extra light on the bumper.

I've always thought the rear fog light was a good thing to have. My Lancia in Italy had two of them. Many european sedans sold in the US actually have them as well, though they are not used all that much.....

Ya already answered my question, I was thinking about safety inspections in the US and whether or not in some states having one fog and one reverse light might be an issue... guess since switching em out isn't that big of a deal, then that should be fine, esp since many of us are already used to switching out bulbs, clear corners, etc for inspections. I'm still gonna do some research on that to see what the DOT says about reverse lamps/rear fogs.
