I like the fenders, rims, marble kit and the body kit wouldn't be that bad if the paint looked better. The kit will look great on your car once to get the sides and your windows tinted. The kit is really agressive, so I think that maybe you should trade you MMs for a more agressive set of 19's or something...I don't really like the look of the rear or the open grille area, but you can fix those easily things by getting a Mesh grille and painting it (the correct) body color, and I think that for DOT reasons and to break up the blending gray, paint the rear brake and turn signals red.

I guess those are the things I would do if I had your car... Hopefully things turn out ok with the whole paint situation...

But honestly, the paint is the first thing and everything else is 2nd!

Good luck and keep it up!

dabox - my windows are tinted, 35%, as dark as i can go by law. i do have grille mesh in the two large holes in the front bumper and the holes in the rear bumper.

chrome - i haven't gotten back to the company yet. i can't get back up to NH for them to do anything about it, so i'm not too sure what to say when i call them.

hopefully i can get this stuff repainted and some side skirts on soon!! does anybody know a good shop or person who can fix the paint disaster for cheap???

Dude I loved your car before you put the body kit on, but I understand what your trying to achieve. I agree with most of what Irish said and like him i'm not gonna bash any part of it. But I will you give you some more advice...Call the shop ASAP, you want them to know that you're VERY unhappy with the results. Once you make that initial call, you have bought yourself some time. Explain your situation, if they are any kind of reputable shop they will give you a loaner/rental for a week. If not, how bad is it to take the bus back to school? That way they can keep it for the entire week until they get it right.

But regardless of the outcome, you have to let them know that you are unhappy with their work!

Look forward to meeting up with you this summer.

Chris

thanks for the advice chris....i think i'm going to call them tomorrow and see if a Maaco here in hartford can repaint it. i think it's a slim chance, but it's worth a shot. but i will atleast let them know i'm not happy with the paint job.

i've got to say that i signed up to put my car into HIN2005 in Boston fully expecting to have this kit fit correctly and painted correctly before then. i've def now learned that this stuff isn't worth rushing just for a show. i've got to make the car presentable for HIN, but after that we'll see what happens with the bumpers. the fenders are staying for sure though - i love how they look.

If your happy with the way the kit looks, then thats all that matters, everyone has their own taste. As far as the paint goes, I just can't believe any body shop (including a Maaco) would let a paint job like that leave the shop, and be considered finished. If that was my car, and Maaco tried to return it in that state, then i'd be busting skulls.

I think it is hard to judge how the car will look until the paint matches up. Right now the body kit looks out of place because the paint is off. It will not look as intense or out of place once the color matches. (All i can think about is how P O'd i'd be at the paint shop if they rolled my car out looking like that........)

I wouldn't do anything drastic until the paint is fixed. It will look a lot different then. (my 0.02!)

It's not my flavor, but it looks kinda BOOM. It also has a very Transformer flair to it. You should paint it red and name it The Transformer.

Seems like you got whatever you could get your hands on and just threw it on there. Kinda rushed in a sense. More research on any further purchases should do you good. Just because it is too expensive does not mean you can get it eventually. You pay what you get for in other words. Catch my drift? In any case whatever suits you taste man but sometimes originality/"different" mods dont always look best. Side skirts on that kit would be a nice enhancement. CF eyelids kick a** though. Paint needs more clear coat is what i think..

i'm gonna call the shop that painted my kit today - i'll let everybody know what they say.

pearlwht - yea, we should def roll in together. as far as exhaust goes, i was originally thinking i wanted the frankencar exhaust, but now i think the evo2 might look better since the hole in the bumper is round. we'll see though - that's a project for the summer!

all right everybody, get this.... i just got off the phone with maaco. i told them that the pieces they painted don't match the rest of the car. so the guy on the phone just says "ok...?" so i asked what they could do about it since my car looks ridiculous right now. and he just said "well, your car is probably just old and faded." i have a 2003...it's not very faded. so i explained that i'm back at school now and can't make it back to NH until may and asked if a maaco down here could fix it. he said no and that when i come back in may "they would take a look at it." so basically, my car is going to be two-tone until may?! my car is going to be in about 5 shows during april, one of them being Hot Import Nights....my car can't look like this!!! any advice guys??

They need to fix that ****......My front end was redone they matched the paint perfectly and I also have a 2003. Even it was a little faded it shouldnt look like that. If you can not make it back up to NH then you are going to be fuked if you dont want someone else to redo the paint.

Be VERY carefull w/that fron bumper because it sits very low, and if mine where FG it would have been shatterd a long time ago.

no offense....but after all the sh*t people talk about maaco and the horrible stuff they do why did you goto them? I know some kid who painted his car a different color from them (a light red to a dark blue) and like they didnt even prep the surface(i've heard that they use something that sticks to existing paint and paint over it) there are spots all over the place that are flaking off showing the red through again and there are some nice fisheyes also. but then again....what do you expect for such a cheap paint job

stevay - i had gotten estimates from different org members saying that it would cost about $300 to paint the bumpers and fenders, so that's what i was working on. after installing everything on my car, i then went out to get some estimates from local shops. most places were quoting me between $600 - $1000 to paint the parts. that was MUCH more than i was expecting and more than i could spend. i am planning to get everything reworked this summer and to have the car repainted, so i figured that a cheap maaco job wouldn't be bad for a few months. apparently, i was wrong.

Those red things behind the grille don't help either.

Holy shiat!!!!
That's normal though.. the area is roughly half the car. A good paintjob can run you 5k but most shops overcharge on bodykits and such since they know the people will pay if they are there to begin with.

Hey it's not my style, but it's different. I'm more of a mild drop with 18"s, quiet exhaust (unless your romping on it) sleeper kind of guy pouncing on unsuspecting cars at red lights when provoked.

03on18s...my initial reaction to your car was horribula.

after looking at your pics i agree with what others said about getting your paint job fixed. once the paint is fixed it will look much better, personally i'd rip maaco a new one if they did something like that to my car. you should raise he!! if they give you any grief over repainting it to MATCH the rest of the car. even if that means they have to paint the whole damn car to get it right.

even though the kit is way too agressive for my tastes i think once you get the side skirts and repainted it will come together nicely. good luck!

That is an awful match on the paint and the kit looks too ricey for me! I would definitley take your car back to who painted it and tell them to redo the paint and while thier at it tell them to put the factory bumper cover back on!

You pay for what you get-a reputable body shop charges the prices they charge because good paint(PPG) is very expensive and just to paint a car could cost over $1000 for materials. Most body shops will work with you and sometimes you can save yourself some cash by doing some of the work your self-ie taking off panels, wet-sanding parts, reinstalling the parts.

Good luck!

gus - i installed everything myself, so the only thing maaco had to do was paint it and they couldn't do that. i've already talked to them and they said they will repaint it, but the next time i can get home is mid-may. needless to say, i'm not thrilled.
