Last week i installed new pads, xd/slotted rotors, and SS brake lines. after 7 hours my friend and i took it out on the road.

bottom line: the clutch is great. works awesome. the brakes are ok. i do have to press them down more than i used to, but it never reaches the floor. it's not concerning me, but should i be feeling this? should they be firmer than stock? if this is a problem or a futire problem, what do i need to do? Thanks!!!

Note: i got the brake package from the GD here on maxima.org (auto_max95)

 

1) You didn't break in the pads/rotors correctly
2) You didn't bleed the brake lines correctly/enough

 

Did you get the Brembo Rotors or RTP Rotors and you got to give it some time before you press all the way down on the brakes. Either way let me know.

We bleed the lines at LEAST 4 times. that's why it took so long! when i first took the car out, i didn't slam on them at all. i slowly braked several times. (just to break them in)

and when i took it out last night, i'm slowly braking. i haven't had to slam on them yet.


RIP G'ma, i got the RTP rotors. they're pretty sweet looking.

 

Brakes take at least a couple hundred miles of city driving to break in properly. With some brake pads, the first stop or two of each trip take a little longer, as the pads need to heat up before they're effective. That's particularly true of metallic pads. Give it a couple of weeks - they'll feel much better before you know it.

 

I have the same thoughts on this topic. Last week, I had my mechanic install the RTP slotted rotors with ceramic pads and my car doesn't seem to stop as well. A lot more force needs to be applied to the brake. The rotors look good and the shimmy is gone, but I think I like the OEM pads better,...as of right now. They may just need some miles on 'em, don't know.

 

This might delay my purchase of RTP rotors and axxis pads. Ive been trying to decide whether to go with Brembo Blanks or RTP Slotted Rotors and until today i thought RTP would perform much better. I guess time will tell.
