Struts and Springs

I like the Tokito HP series over the Illumina series simply because I'm to lazy to adjust them so why bother. I have Stock wheels now with 235-45-17 tires so i have a bigger gap than before. What would be a better fit the progress springs which lower 1.7 and 1.5 or the Tein Stech which lower 2.2 and 1.6. I saw the other post about the 19 inch rims but I'm wondering about stock wheels. I want to illiminate as much wheel gap as possible. Will the Tein Stech rub?

you should consider what type of ride you want after your suspension upgrade. from what i've read tokiko hp blues are a rougher ride than illuminas. as far as the springs you have to consider the same thing.

check this site out to get some info: http://www.innerbean.com/housecor/sp..._decision.html

ok thanks for the site. If thats true about the struts than i would rather get the Illuminas but as far as the ride with the springs. I'll sacrifice some comfort to take out that gap.

I would go with the Illuminas. You are to lazy to adjust them? If you can open your hood and turn a screwdriver you can adjust them. It really is that easy. Trust me, I am a fellow lazy person. They are better because you can match them to match the spring rate of whatever springs you decide on. That way you get the best ride. As far as springs, I have Tein H-techs. They offer a comfortable ride and a good looking drop.

Thanks alot for the info crisp. Are the koni adjustable worth the extra 50$ over the Illuminas. I don't know much about these. I had Hor springs with Boge turbo gas on my VW and that rode pretty good. The rear aren't adjustable?

i just got my Hps put in yesterday...imo opinion the ride is about the same as stock maybe slightly stiffer over bumps and the handeling is 100X better...take turn at 30-35 with ease and much miuch less body roll... i love it

Umm..Struts don't decrease body roll much if at all. That's the spring's job.

I saw some pics from that site and it was very helpful. The progress springs look like an even drop all around and seem to lower more in the back than the Stechs. How are the ride dif between the 2. I've been reading alot of people complaining about the Stechs but nothing so far from the progress users. Are the progress as harsh as the Stechs?

No, they aren't as harsh. I have Progress/HPs and it rides nicely.... 7.5 out of 10 with 10 being stock....

Do a search for more threads on Progress springs if ya want more feedback... many others, including myself, have commented on em in the past...

Here's a pic of my drop:

Progress is likely the most even drop without going to Coilovers, although mine still sits a smidge higher in front than back.

On rough pavement- I will not say the Progress springs are comfortable - you feel it all.....but they handle damn nice of smooth pavement and fast sweepers.

I would consider H&R's if I was to switch to a similar spring combo, while gaining back some everyday driveability and comfort.

oh - and stay away from the Konis. Although I'm not convinced of the durability of the illuminas yet.

I have about 17k on mine, and they're doing ok.

I'd argue that Maxspeeds are the most even of all drops and avoid the infamous "rear-sag" look other springs can create (Yes, I know that it's not really sag, that's why I said "look"). H-Tech's do a good job of a clean even look, as well.

Tire wear VS drop

I'm ponying up for some Illuminas. I'm not sure which way to go with springs. How badly does your tire wear change with the drop? (Camber changes dramatically) Any helpful hints or suggestions.
I can deal with the 4x4 effect I just want handling without burning through expensive tires.

PS I also am already doing a front strut brace and the stillen sway in the rear.

To my knowledge, and also in my experience - there are no adverse effects on tire wear when dropping. If anything, you'll experience longer tire life due to better grip, and spring/strut performance.
Just make sure you get an alignment after you install the new springs or you WILL have uneven wear due to camber issues.

however, you will tend to want to push the limits of the handling in the corners since it's so damn fun!!
This will probably tend to wear your tires-out faster than before.....

Springs are a VERY subjective choice. Do your homework, and you'll figure it out. Best way to decide is to sample others' rides.

Thanks for the reply. Another question, is there enough camber adjustment in the suspension if I drop it 1.2 or so. Or do I need aftermarket camber adjustment plates?

I don't know much about adjusting camber in these cars, but I do know that a 1.2" drop should NOT need addt'l plates or adjustment.

Just an alignment, and you'll be fine.

Not on struts/springs combos for the Max... none of em drop it low enough.... maybe coilovers....
