Awesome post. Very thoughtful, yet so simple and obvious that it makes me feel dumb for not thinking of it myself.

And Madmax- I hope you laughed in that guys face then walked away. $125 per rotor? Were they serious? What's w/that?

I used a 4" long 1/2" bolt, washer and nut. It only took a couple of turns and the rotor just popped loose and came off.

I got my rotors at Autozone for $45 each and used Hawk HPS pads.

Just wondering, since you are only pushing on one side with the bolt/nut/washer...isn't it possible you could strip the caliper mount? Just wondering.

I don't think the force is that great to crack the caliper mount.

Where in Raleigh are you?

You're correct if you do it by hand. For those impatient folks out there, don't use a damn impact wrench or you will strip that sheit out...

Those two holes are not threaded (the caliper bracket is) and the force needed to push the rotor off is not very high. I think there is 0% chance that you will damage that heavy cast iron spindle this way. Pounding on the rotor with a sledge hammer and putting all of that shock into the hub, bearings, etc didn't seem good to me. My rotors were really rusted on.

Put it this way, the force the Caliper puts on that rotor when you apply the brake is no where near you trying to push that rotor with that screw/bolt meathod.

Yeah, you're right. For some reason I thought they were threaded. Maybe it's my truck that has them threaded...

just installed brembo rotors last night, the hardest part was the rear part, but for your problem just spray some lubricant in the middle and keep on hitting it...good luck
