i went to the drag stip last night, i got six runs in, after my last run i got my time slip and found out that my car was stuck in 5th gear. i had a choice of 5th gear or neutral couldn't pull it over to the otehr gears. so i got the car to where i could park it and turned it off. look in the engine bay and under the car to check the linkages and didn't see anything that would cause to bind of be stuck. so i restarted the motor and the stick became unstuck and i could use every gear, however when i go into 3rd gear just driving it grinds. this is my first 5 speed car and i have never had any types of problems like there. van and lance came up to the track, and van thinks that it might be a motormount but i didn't see any of them that looked broke or anything. i'm really kind of stressed about the whole thing so if anyone has any suggestions i would love them thanks

Sounds like a shift fork or shift selector mechanisim broke inside the tranny. You can eighter open the sucker up and see whats wrong and maybe fix it cheap- key WORD maybe, or just get a new tranny. Possibility of a broken engine mount could also be the culprit- but I doubt it. I rebuild my old 5spd before. I might be willing to sell it- I got 40K on it since rebuild- and it has bout 100K now.

One morning my car wouldn’t go into any gear. I took it to my mechanic and he had to replace my master cylinder and he replaced my slave cylinder just as a precaution.

I would say that the clutch master is bad or the slave, but since he said the tranny was stuck in one gear that sounds like its a internal tranny problem and its not clutch related. Can you force the tranny into gear and does it jerk the car when U do so ? If it does, then its clutch related. I assume his clutch grabs just fine.

clutch is ok, i just have problems i think with the syncros, so i'm thinkin about takin it out and having them rebuilt, by the way how much do you want for that tranny

i think that i have a combination of the two problems, the motor mounts and the tranny. i am going to try to look at it tomorrow to make sure that there isn't anything that is messed up at the shifter. i think to make things easier i will just go ahead and replace my mounts with poly filled ones and the tranny, unless it is possible to just have the syncros just rebuilt. if anyone else has any more ideas please let me know, my car is not fun to drive, i can't use second gear because it gets stuck coming out of it, and i can use third as long as i don't go from second, and it sometimes won't go into fifth gear. it really sucks

mine grinds into third when under heavy load, but its never been stuck in a certain gear. id say its a combination of clutch and mounts.

That's why I don't drag race my car, unless it's modified specifically for that. Sorry to hear about your tranny, i hope you get it fix or find the culprit.
