Maxima 2000 GLE Shock Sturts
Maxima 2000 GLE Shock Sturts
Hey guys,
I need help once again.... everytime I hit a bump I hear a loud boom noise in the front shock struts.. I believe I need to change them - my GLE has 79K miles on it. I went to the dealer and they told me that it will cost $256 for each strut ... I just need the 2 in the front. It is very expensive to go the dealer. Do you know what other good brands I could put instead of the one from the dealer. I believe my shocks are fine its just the struts cause one mechani told me that they need to be replaced. If anyone can help me by giving a contact where I can purchase good struts (equivalent to the OEM or better - I would really appreciate it. Thanks for all help guys.

Shocks and Struts are both suspension components, but only one can be at each wheel. So the front of your max has two struts, one per wheel, and two shocks for the back (per wheel, again).
If you are sure your two struts are bad, there are a number of replacements, and it depends how much you want to spend on them. Hopefully someone else can point to some good struts.

You wanna buy aftermarket struts. I would also suggest that you lower your car along with putting on new struts. The ride with be wicked nice with a firm strut and nice drop. Prevent body roll and what not. There are alot of spring and alot of struts. I have Tein S-tech springs on Koni Struts. Nice firm ride. I really want to buy Tokico Illuminas though. Pricey but wicked nice. This is the right place to get the information you are looking for man. Good Luck.
Thanks for the advise.... I am not looking to lower the car, I wanna keep the car stock. What kind of front struts should i get and how much am I looking to spend on them????... the car is a GLE.
Thanks
Rami
Thanks

Looking to spend?whats your price range?
ok well even if you dont want to lower it, you can get Tokicos,Konis, weapon R, Edibach... Oh man theres tons. I heard a very lot of good about the tokicos. If you check in the sticky for links on places to buy parts. There are tons of places to compare out prices on struts. Im sure you will get many more responses in here.

its going to be a stiffer ride most likely, but the ride quality should be jsut as good. The Tokico HP's on custom enterprise are 349 for all four, 2 front and 2 rear. and the Tokico illuminas are 499 for all four. cehck them out,

How much is it to buy the OEM ones??
ooops i stand correct about 500, then they have to install at another rate. Im not sure what you should do man. All i know is that alot of guys take out the OEM for lasting reasons and for ride quality.

With OEM Springs etc.... it's pretty hard to justify spending a bunch more money on aftermarkets. But for $250 each for dealer OEM thats a little pricy. I'll sell you my used OEM struts for $150 for all four!
and you said they had low miles correct? about 30k if i recall right so Coby you might wanna do that, get some pics of the struts so you can see the shape, make sure you can see all the sides of the struts. Then you decide.
I really think the ride would improve If you switch to the Tokico Illuminas. They are easily adjustable so you can tune the ride to your liking.
If you stay with the stock springs the ride will still be super smooth but the higher quality Illuminas will give you more control and less bouncing around.

I just feel that $256 bucks for each front strut is kinda steap and that im getting ripped off - so I guess the best thing for me to do is get the Stock OEM struts from the nissan dealer for the smoothest ride?
i dunno how much nissan charges, but you can check courtesy nissan and see how much they cost. i think the best bet would be the illuminas cause theyll last the longest and they are easily adjustable for ride stabilty and ride hardness. I looked into them a little bit more and for the money it might cost you to get two new oem nissan struts you could get all four illuminas for 499. So hhmm, check out courtesy.

How much do you want to sell them to me for? What year is your maxima and are they GLE struts? I am willing to purchase used ones that have such low miles on them. So let me know how much ! and maybe we can arrange something!

shocks for the same price (give or take a few $$). You will eventually
need to replace the rear shocks, then you'll have to spend even more
money. It would be crazy to spend $700-800 on OEM shocks.
#2.) Buy aftermarket shocks. Illumina (made by Tokico) are adjustable, so
the turn of a dial you can adjust the ride the way you want it. I have
mine set on #2 in front, and #2 in back (the shocks are adjustable
from a setting of 1 thru 5, 1=soft, 5=firm). Aftermarket shocks
give you far better control, and ride, then the OEM Nissan shocks.
#3.) Don't replace the front shocks only if you go aftermarket shocks, it is
always better to replace all four. That way the car's suspension is
equally balanced, providing much better and safer handling.
See above........or send me an email @ cschulze@artromick.com
