Bose :-(

As i was driving from work yesterday, I heard the driver side speaker going out.. then it came back up... then it gave out again. So when i got home, i put the balance to the LEFT side, and noticed that my whole LEFT side is rattling.. (sounds like blown speakers) I mean, i know its next to impossible for all 3 speakers to blow at the same time, and since i heard it going out, i know it a wiring (connection) problem. Any fixes for this? I'm going to the dealer after work today, and hopefully I still have warranty left i have 35,200 miles, but i know its 3yrs or 36k miles... but anyway, what should I expect? FEEs if not under warranty??? can i fix this myself??? PLEASE PLEASE let me know..

Thank you

This is a common problem, there is even a TSB out on it, get to a dealer before the warranty is up and they should take care of it. I had mine replaced twice under warranty for the same problem.

12k miles

Well, I guess I'm stuck! The warranty says Audio is covered fro 12k miles, and I called corp. to confirm. I have no more warranty, what does this cost? I really don't want to go aftermarket unless I go to that Pioneer GSM, but I don't have funds for that! Is there anything else I can do? I have a feeling this fix will be over $1000!!!

what is your problem, get a BOSE H/U adapter and buy some aftermarket speakers. This will cost you not $1000 but 300 or less, if you buy some used high end speakers.

just save your money for the GSM, and deal with it. it is your HU, not your speakers. this is a common problem for BOSE owners. on good days it doesnt go out. but on bad days it goes out. im starting to get used to this.

I had mine done with 31k miles on the car. They replaced the HU. I think the WHOLE car is covered for 3 years/36k miles. May even be 5yr/60k coverage for everythign but the drivetrain.

That info is certainly helpful, might even have to reference it when it breaks again outside of warranty, but don't think for a second that the problem has actually been solved by Nissan (Clarion), it hasn't.

I hope Studman is right - Nissan just had to order another HU for me since my new one crapped out after less than 24 hours! He was right about fixing the SES light with the Stillen headers so I trust him.

That site charges 275 to fix the problem and if your not local with shipping its going to be over 300. I think for that money you can go buy yourself a nice pioneer or alpine cd receiver. I have the same problem and will probably go for a pioneer in the near future, mainly because even if you fix the problem there is no garuantee that it will not come back.

It seems that for most, the Bose HU issues come back, no matter how many you've gone through... save yourself the time and effort and get an aftermarket... you can still hook up the steering wheel controls with the right device (forget the name) and use the stock speakers.

Great. 38k miles and my '02 decides to start acting up now. Called the dealer and sounds like they're gonna be a$$es about it.

Even if you're just going to get an aftermarket HU, it seems worth it to me to go for the Nissan replacement just to get a little $$ from a salvage yard or e-bayer.

Get an aftermarket headunit. You will not regret it - one of the the best mods you can buy for your car and yourself.

well if you do plan on getting it fixed at the dealer, make sure they do it the FIRST time you go...i went through hell trying to get my regular dealer to fix it, so finally i just gave up and went to another dealer...that was the best thing i could have done...it took about 15 min. to diagnose the problem and order the part, and a couple weeks later the part was there. I dropped my car off before school one day to get the new HU installed, and by mid-day it was done and i picked it up at the end of the day at no charge whatsoever. It really all depends on your dealer and if you're willing to risk it being a total PITA to fix or not....if I had money, i would definitely go the aftermarket route, but i dont so this is what i'm stuck with..hopefully it wont crap out again though, because I just went out of warranty this month..

updates

well, i was searching around on what goes on and why its happening. I don't think its a connection problem, i think the problem is internal.

basically, if you notice, when the left side goes out, if you flip to the radio, it'll work just fine. so the only problem is in the CDs...

second, it happens on CDs 5, and 6 (when i did the test) when i put the CD from 6th slot to the 4th, it worked fine, in all the speakers..

third, i tried tapping the radio from all the sides, when the CD is in 6th slot or 5th, if you slightly hit your center dash from the passenger side, it'll work again. don't brake it, but increase your power if it doesn't come back up.. best way to test is to put the balance to the LEFT side, and hear when it comes up again.

well, i don't know if this is helpful to anyone, but as soon as i get a replacement radio, I ordered from a friend who owns a dealer, he can get parts cheap, i'll open this original one, and see if i can find the problem. (or if my dad can (he's good with elec. things like that)

well, i'll keep you all updated!

you're probably just lucky...so far from what i can tell, it has nothing to do with the speakers...i think it has something to do with the 'speed sensitive' volume control (if it even worked!) because whenever i press on my brake to slow down is when it cuts off, then when i hit the gas again, it turns back on (most of the time anyways, it is also caused by bumps, which i still cant figure out) and secondly, its ONLY when playing CDs! that's the real kicker that tells me that it is, in fact, internal, and not just some loose wire...
