2k4 Rotor Upgrade

2k4 Rotor Upgrade
I will be in the process over the next couple of days completing my new brake setup which includes a 2k4 rotor upgrade using Matt Blehm's 6th gen relocation kit. I will keep everyone updated of the progress in this thread as I get the job done and I will make sure to take plenty of pictures. I will go ahead and leave you this picture of the 2k4 rotor compared to the 2k1 rotor to leave ya hangin...
EDIT: Project Complete! Check my webpage for details.

Being that they are a much larger rotor (12.6 inches), as long as a good brake pad is used that will dissipate heat across a better area, they will not warp...AT ALL. This is actually just the 150 dollar 6th gen relocation kit that allows us 5th genners with 17" rims or larger to upgrade to 2k4 rotors using the same 5th gen calipers. However, they will only work on 2000-2001 vehicles.

nice, i have a feeling my rotors are warped. i get vibration at 60+ mph when braking. Let us know how this goes, also the full price to make it fit with stock 17" rims. What pads you recommend? i guess hawk? so all we need is this rotor and proper pads?

Hey why doesnt someone with a 2k2-2k3 that lives close to sooner ride meet up with him and try it cause by looks of this pictures it should fit, i kows its 2k2 wheels on a 2k but that means it will clear unless the calipers are bigger on the 2k2-2k3, which i doubt they are. So why dont you have someone meet up with you and try it on a 2k2 or 2k3 i think it should work

The 5.0 gen brakes are slightly smaller than the 5.5 gen.
there's about a 1/2" difference in the rotor size, which is all done in the torque arm on the caliper.
so if you bolt my 5.0 gen relocation kit up to a 5.5 gen, the calipers will sit about 3/4" away from the top of the rotor- only allowing about 1/2 the pad to contact the disc. NOT cool.
it's also impossible to make a new bracket to fit the 02-03 caliper under the 04 rotor either, because of the difference in size... the bolt holes would actually overlap and there's no way to fit 4 bolts in the place of 2 like the 5.0 gen kit.

you'd have to make the distance between the bolts a 1/2" closer, and you can see I'm already having to trim one bolt head to make it fit. no way you could do it.

I warped a set of 2k4 rotors with Axxis Metal Master pads using this kit, so don't say they're unwarpable. However, these were OEM Nissan rotors.
Since then, I installed some 2k4 iRotors, cross-drilled and slotted. Mated to these are a set of Bendix IQ Titanium pads. Had these on since October, no warpage so far, and I drive ~45Kmi/year. I've felt vibration here and there that I thought was the early stages of warpage, but occasionally it goes away.
(Then again, that seemed to always be the pattern whenever the rotors would warp in the past, there would be a period of "teasing" where they would feel warped one day, and then OK the next... but that period wouldn't last very long like it has with these)

The knuckles for all 5th gens are the same. the difference is in the calipers..
So you could bolt on the complete 2004 brake system (calipers and rotors), you could go with my Z32/2k4 rotor kit, you could go with any other full-blown brake kit, or you could get a set of 5.0 gen calipers and my relocation brackets and bolt on the 2004 rotors.
You just can't use the 02-03 calipers for anything.

I will take some pictures for you guys of the install so hopefully you can see what Matt is talking about. I have decided to mate the new rotors to Wagner ThermoQuiet performance pads which very few ppl on the Org have so that should give me something else to report on as well.

If anyone with a 02-03 is interested in some 01 calipers I have a set that I didn't think I would ever find anyone interested in- I would let them go for like 75 bux plus shipping. They are not painted or anything.... just throwin some wood in the fire for anyone who wants to do Matts excelent kit with OEM calipers and 04 Maxima rotors

few questions:
relocation kit is only needed if we stay using your 00-01 calipers?
Would u consider 04 calipers better? just a lot more expensive? Isnt this the best alternative since it involves no extra pieces, no hubcentric rings and whatnot...?
how much would an 04 irotor/04 rotors package cost vs 04irotors/reloc kit vs 04irotors/300zxtt calipers?
and what pads work the best against warping? or even what combo works best against that as well?

the 04 calipers/rotors bolt right up to stock (2000-2003). The only downside is that they will NOT fit under some 17's (including the 2000-2001 wheels)...
