To those with the Grille-Tech lower grille insert...

Did you spray any kind of sealant or coating on the grille before you installed it? I dont want it to rust in a year or two. If you did, what did you use?

thanks!

I didn't spray mine...and it rusted within about a year. I just removed it, cleaned it with naval jelly and a wire brush and sprayed it with rusoleum cold galvanizing compound. Looks nice, but we'll see how it holds up.

Try clearcoating them before installing. My set rusted in less than a year and I had to repaint them.

Well, i've had both the upper and lower grill kit for 2 years now and it still looks brand new. I never put any kind of coating on it. The secret is to keep it dry as much as possible. After rain or a wash, i dry it completely.

I just installed mine, 2 lower and 1 upper grill the other week. I didnt spray anything on it, but I am going to. I have been checking them out and I already have a paint chip on the upper grill. I am going to take all three out and spray some sort of clear coat to them.

i didn't spray anything on mine and after the harsh winter we had it's already rusting away. I'm going to have to try what Rayn4est did. You have to realize that the grilles come unpainted (silver) and painted (black) if your grille is already painted it won't rust as easily as the silver ones.
