Any ill-effects with wider rear tires?

Any ill-effects with wider rear tires?

I've always wondered, since our cars are FWD, would it matter what size tire we put in the back? Since power is only applied to the front wheels, I can't see the speedometer being effected at all. Regardless, I ask, would a wider tire in the rear have any effect on the tach?

I wouldn't think it would have any affect, but keep in mind, tire rotation will become an issue.

It won't affect the tach at all, however it will affect your handling characteristics slightly. Because there's more rubber being put down on the back than the front, you'll notice more understeer when pushing it hard into the turns. It might look good, but I don't think its the right way to go on a Maxima.

I seem to remember hearing that the RSB causes the maxima to have a tendancy to oversteer, if thats the case, then get it and the wider tires in the rear might bring the handling to balance. just my $.02

I changed out the 205/60/R15s on my '00 GLE to 245/45/ZR18s and it DEFINITELY affected the speedometer.

I was recently given a nice piece of paper by a Louisiana State Trooper. I set the cruise at 72mph on I-45 and he stopped me for going 80mph (!).

wow...and i thought mine was bad...i just recently made a trip following another car and they set their cruise for 75 and in my car, it said i was going 70, and i have the stock tire size: 225/50/17.... but i think he was referring to putting wider tires JUST on the rears, not the front and rear tires...

btw, where in louisiana is Leesville? i'm moving to Mandeville in a month...cant wait to have boiled crayfish!! (sp?)

question - if you're running different front/back tire sizes, with the diff circumference - won't that throw the ABS sensor a loop? It will think one axel is spinning too fast relative the other, apply the brakes, shorten pad/rotor life gas mileage etc?

Be careful running that combo. IMO, not a good idea. If anything switch the wider tires to the front, and go to a drag event. Other then that, bad idea.
