frankencar exhaust question....

I just installed my frankencar cat back on my 02 maxima. I was just wondering if anyone else who has it installed with headers I might add, has noticed a banging sound over bumps and what not. I have traced it back to where the pipe goes over what looks like a cross member near the rear axle. Is there anything I can do to stop the damn banging? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jam an old rubber exhaust hanger in that "tunnel" between the piping and the frame maybe? Worked for some other guys who had the same problem....

or you can reinforce the weak stock exhaust hangers with zip ties to ensure less play when the car is moving.

There should be 3 on the exhaust and one of the b-pipe

Someone also suggested [edit] lowering the part Larrio mentioned below w/longer bolts/washers. Another suggestion was to replace the Nissan hangers w/either Stillen ones, NAPA heavy duty ones, or Acura MDX hangers. I still have to get around to fixing this, it sounds horrible w/the bumping even over the smallest bumps.

ok well I ended up putting hose clamps on to reinforce the hangers. def less play. I think my tips hit the bumper now though lol. I sware if it's not one thing then it's another. I am just going to have to play with it till I get it perfect I guess.

i don't think you meant the crossmember, as thats near the front of the car holding your entire engine to the chassis.

Probably spacing the bracket that goes across bottom of the b-pipe near the end of the car before the spare tire well

Oops, yeh, that's the part I meant. The shop told me it was hitting the cross member so just thought that's what it might be called. Posted edited above...

I also used the hose clamps to eliminate the thump.
