which touch screen , xenarc or lilliput??

 

It is a lilliput screen,

2.4ghz pentium 4
512 ram
onboard audio (real 97)/ video (64 meg)
160gig hdd.
and one 40 external hdd to transfer data from my real computer to the car puter.

 

hey sliver, u might wanna try a wireless card route. You can transfer stuff while the car sits in the driveway. It's also less of a hassle with removing the external HD, etc...just providing some input good luck on the project.

 

yeah, i was thinking about that, But Instead i will be saving my money for other things. this project is costing me enough money as it is... but i definetly want to do this when i have money money avlb to me. also, another concern is space...

the reason why i i have on board sound/video is because this computer is going in my glove box, so space is an issue.

 

tight, i thought about getting one of those and putting it in my car and using the computer as the brain and no headunit. Anyways, i was wondering where you got the tiger hair from.

 

I got it from a local boating store. most hardware stores to not carry it (well, at least not over here) it is rather pricey though.

unfortunetly not, I had to go on call and spend 5 hours fixing a computer. (format, reload) nothing was done since right after work i had to to that. today i will work on it, and i have tomorrow off too...

 

yeah, talk about a moble gamming computer! ha ha ha. ok, bad joke.

i wanted something slower, but they are all new parts, and they do not make anything slower.

Curious, what are you using for powersupply? are you using the OPUS?

And is it necessary to use a headunit? I purchased an empty Xenarc kit and a GXE dash kit to attempt to mold into the dash, and i was going to go headunit-less... It should simplify the install, since you dont need to feed the RCA's back to the headunit and have it go back tot he amp.

For volume control, i already have the SWI-x but i was told you can use the GAME port on your mother board and take signals fromt eh nissan steering wheel.. which is sweet!

 

I Have an opus I will be using for the computer, it would be stupid not to use one... it is well worth the money.

And yes, I want to use a head unit. it will provide a higher quality of sound, and offers many more adjustable features.

Looks like some really nice work, but I still don't understand how the climate control unit is going to fit in that space back there.

 

The digital climate controls are nothing more then a circuit board. No mechanics I believe.

J/k... everything was measured... the climate control is actualy very small, it fits perfectly in the peice I made. don't worry, its all under control

so you are using an opus for that setup?? Isn't opus like 150W .... will that be enough to power that power-hungry system you are setting up???


i agree with you on the headunit - good thing the 4th gens have 3 DINs hehe. I bought a pioneer aux adapter for the sound. However, i have mini-amps in the works so i don't need my deck all-together.

Yeah, I actually didnt get the 150 watt unit, I got the 90W unit. 90w should be plenty to power the system, I am not running any fans neon lights or other fancy stuff off the power supply, I will wire those directly to my car instead with 3 switches mounted in my change holder.

sometimes i wish i had my 4th gen back, this would have been a much simpler install... lol.

 

Are you sure the 150Watt Opus is enough power for all your accessories?

My main concern (when i find the time to continue the project) is power consumption. I was going to run an Athlon mobile XP

When i do my project, i am going head unit less for shizzle!! I think my headunit would be useless to me, since my 2k3 steering volume control would control the computers volume..

nice work so far!
i noticed that with a metal flake paint, you can hide some lumps a lot easier than using a flat or glossy color (by no means am i saying you have lumps in your project lol). I give you props cause all that bondo, fiberglass, sanding, and painting gets really messy!

 

Can't wait to see the end result! Especially moving the climate control to the sunglass holder location. That is gonna rock.

 

Thanks... but stop calling my work "lumpy" that paint is pretty close to an exact match to the factory interior paint.

thanks for the props, it is a messy job, you should see my floor! need to use a mask after a while, breathing in all the fumes/dust is really bad and starts to hurt.

I have been working on it for a a little bit after work, but I have not made too much progress to post new pics. This sun/mon i will spend both full days working on the project, and hopefully get it done once and for all.

 

This is an unbelievable install! Keep it up, I'm excited to see how it turns out!

wow great work man. Its awesome. I want to do some fiberglassing work but ive never done it before. i think it would be cool to fiberglass some gauge pods to the pillar. There is always something we want to do! lol
