Maxspeeds finally installed

Long story short, had Maxpeeds and GR-2's then sold it before installing. Got bit by the bug again, bought another set of Maxspeeds and finally had it installed (Thanks to Mr. BlehmCo.)

After about 200 miles of driving i can definitely say i'm happy with the set-up. Ride-wise, everybody seems dead-on on the 10% stiffness over stock description. And it's not harsh at all - not the least bit, best way i can describe it is "smoother than stock".

Handling has definitely improved, the difference is more dramatic than when i first put the RSB/FSTB on. It's not exactly riding on rails but it's getting there. Lean is virtually gone as well, in fact turn-in feels so good that it seems there's a bit more oversteer now.

The fronts dropped exactly as i'd hoped it would, not too much and not too little. The rear barely dropped but having progressive spring rates in the back has its benefits. Then again, it's only been 3 days since it was installed.

Obligatory before/after pics follows. My set-up is composed of repainted Maxspeed springs on stock struts at 61k.

looks great dude. those are the springs i was thinking about getting but i'm afraid of putting them on with stock struts because i hear people saying it will blow out the stuts.

got any before and after side pics of both the fronts and rears together?

looks like you changed the rotors too.

Rear is going to take a while to settle, because it has the least amount of weight applied. The car will settle a bit more soon. Edit: I'm also Maxspeeds. Look how well my car settled.

sorry to be OT but i was wondering how bad it is to use lowering springs on stock struts. i'd like to lower my suspension but don't feel like spending the over $400 on illuminas right now.
if i do blow one of my struts would the springs get damaged at all?

jeepik, yeah i read about the rust issue so i painted over it hopefully that'll work 2x as long.

XGaSpAcHo, i have a before but haven't had a chance to take an after. will post as soon as i do. by the way, if you do blow struts the springs shouldn't get affected. the ride will be crappy but the springs will be fine.

shurik, probably because it's not settled yet - but even if it hasn't i'm fine with it, the back is low enough for me. It's the front that looked too high.

kcowden, thanks

NYPD-Arnold, yours is looking good! how much did the rear go down compared to stock? jeepik's 1.5" drop sounds pretty low for maxspeeds.

ICULookN,

brettb, yep! thanks!

maximo-SE, yep on stock struts. i wanted to get a feel of being dropped before i drop any more dough on aftermarket struts (no pun intended). The stock struts are still in pretty good condition so no sense in swapping that out yet.

Lontar1, got it for about $117 shipped from Ketronsales.

Welcome to the maxspeed club.

I think I hold the record for having them the longest without installing. I had mine for over 2 years before I finally put them on.

It's a two finger front up front and back. My stance is more aggressive and there is absolutely ZERO appearance of sag in the rear. The rear is supposed to drop about 1-1.2 inches.

y2KAOSMax, LOL. I think i got you beat (well, at least until this one). My original Maxspeeds were from a GD a loong time ago. I got it then for $90 shipped and was sitting in the closet for 3 years.

NYPD-Arnold, 2 fingers? Darn. I have it at barely 3 right now and think it's perfect. Hopefully it doesn't go down too much. I guess 2 will be fine

The run great Plenty of other folks run the Blues also, just look for the thread that asks what struts are you running.

how many miles have you put on the maxspeeds with stock struts? i'm trying to decide whether it's a good idea to do the same setup.
