Rear Caliper Toast??

Rear Caliper Toast??
My rear driver caliper is off the car and i'm turning the piston with a tool, but it's not going back into the caliper. It's about still 3/4 inch out from flush and won't go over the new pads.
Do I need to apply a bunch of pressure AND twist to get those back? Or is twisting itself enough. Basically, I'm wondering if I'm not using enough might, or is my caliper busted if it won't go back?
thx!!

lol this happened to me and i took it to 3 different mechanics, they all said bad caliper it shouldn't be that hard, and it seems that all of a sudden alot of us 00 and 01 owners are experiencing bad rear calipers... once again another reason why i will definitly buy another nissan

calipers are fine !!
Well, had I listened to the nissan stealership lack of service shop manager about my rear caliper, i'd be out another 100 bucks. He said if the piston doesn't go in after turning, it's a bad caliper. nope, you gotta PRESS and turn using a piston retractor tool FREE at Autozone that uses a plate to provide backpressure against the caliper arms while simultaneously turning the piston. This worked like a charm and my brakes feel awesome today. I broke them in slowly last evening. My rear brakes (mind you my first time) took me only an hour with that tool. Rotors and pads.
Seriously, Nissan service shops truly do suck A$$.
My first mod, brembo slotted rotors / PBR axxis pads. also my first brake job!
rock on!

I have a feeling that my mechanic is trying to rip me off by telling that I need a new caliper.
Basically, he got the car on the lift, and turned the rear wheel without taking it off. The wheel won't turn.

I would take the caliper off, and clean it real good by taking it apart/lube it up with "Ultra disk lube". there is a good how to write up on www.motrvate.ca , hope it helps.
You could also send your caliper to a refurbishing place for them to Recondition it..$80 i think. They need your core, so the car will be down during this time.
On another note i heard you can install a brake caliper from a 300z or infinity caliper on the Max, especially for the front, does anyone know if they will fit under the tire 17"
