5th gen aftermarket fogs

I picked up this set from Pepboys for $40 and installed them in about an hour. I've had them on for roughly 1,500 highway miles and so far, they haven't moved, don't shake, and, most importantly, haven't cracked! Plus, they give out a nice, white light that is pretty close to the HID light. Anyway, here's the pics:

Box it came in:

I'll try to post a pic of the light pattern sometime.

Heck of a lot better than the cracked stockers I used to sport!

Easy, worthwhile, and cheap alternative to spending a $100 a side for the fogs. I figure i just saved myself enough cash to buy a front lip!

did you wire these to a switch or to the original harness?

used the original harness. I cut the wires of both the OEM and aftermarket fogs and attached the OEM harness to the aftermarket units. HOWEVER, the new fogs came with everything needed to install the switch in your car, so if you got the cheap version on the max, you can still add fogs pretty easily if you pop out the filler piece inside the housing and install these with the complete wiring and switch

If that's your blue max, you have the color I wish I would've gotten.

Ya, took me about an hour, and that's only because I spent 45 minutes looking around for a bolt and nut combo I could use to install it.

When mine cracked, it was from a rock that flew up out of a semi tire and WHAM!

i'm on my 4th set of "glass" fogs on my 2k2. they're prone to breaking. believe me, they're easy to crack.

good job...i may have to consider these. this 4th set has been cracked for a year now.

GBAUER,
Thanks so much for sharing the info. About a month ago my foglight got hammered by rock from a gravel truck. That thing hit the car like it has shot from a gun. I was really bummed about the idea on spending $100 on a new one. I will have to try this mod out.

Thanks again,
Gears

The new fogs came with aftermarket bracketry. I basically used their brackets and bolted them to the holes in the back of the fog light recess on the bumper. If you do this, be sure to use a large washer on the backside of the bumper so the fog is holding onto a larger area of plastic. This will keep it from breaking.

That looks like a nice alternative. I have already replaced my fogs once, I hope not to do that again.

i went to pepboys today to pick up some wiper blades and saw those lights.
let me ask you, how do they look with that chrome on it. i saw it and wasn't too fond of the chrome all over the front of it. was hesitant to buy it based on that. something about that looks almost cheezy, like a fake chrome. i guess if you put up some larger pictures, i could see how they look

and secondly, i'm assuming the plugs on these are a direct plug and play as our OEM fogs.

Thanks.

Hey guys check out mine Hella Angel eye fogs.

Hey GBAUER, those fogs look alright, but I think you should've get Hella Angel eye fogs, like I got. And yes you guys can get them in Pepboys for like $65.

I would've gotten them if they were there that day.

The crome doesn't look bad. In fact, it matches with the HID's.

hey what kind of switch do the Hella angel eye fogs have? can you hook them up to your stock fog switch and have the angel eyes work or is there a special switch to turn the angel eyes on? Thanks

I had CyberWhite driving lamps on my car for a while till it, too, got kit by a rock shattering the entire thing. Then put on the PIAAs and one side got hit by a rock and it cracked that too. IMO glass fogs are inherently prone to cracking, it doesn't matter whether it's OEM, $40 or $200 aftermarket lamps.

Btw. these same lights are sold at Walmart under a diff name I think. When I bought mine, they were $70 at PepBoys and $40 at Walmart -- same thing, diff. name. IIRC the non-chrome ones are driving lights w/a blue lense. Might look ricey in some ppl's eyes. It didn't bother me when I had them though.
