it doesn't really matter where u position the sirius antenna.

mine is on top of the HU inside the dash.

no problems with reception.

i think u shoudl just get the 5425, and if u want something better, get the AVX or AVN.

i got the avn5435 and it kicks some A$$.

i think the 8445 is way too much money for a non-lcd HU, although it does have a small display, it's kinda $hitty.

Put it on the front dash. In between the defogger vents on the front. Works great there.

I've seen some luxury vehicles, that have removed the front bumper, and installed it in there, with no reception problems....

My XM antenna sits right where the BOSE subwoofer woulda sit if my car had one. Its un-noticable to anyone since I have tinted windows, I get no windnoises from it and doesn't attract attention to it. I get good reception with it. Its only when I go downtown or tunnels of Chicago that my reception fades away in some spots. I don't live in the city so its never a issue really.

I have my antenna outside on the trunk lid. Its hard to notice it because the spoiler covers some of it.

Mine is located ontop of my roof, it's been on there since october, never fallen off, no signal trouble. the wire is run through the rear window weather stripping into the trunk. Here are some pics, its pretty low profile, not reallt seen even though its black and I have a silver car

And this is the receiver mounted in the trunk

Thanks man! Those are nice and detailed pix... appreciate it.
The Sirius antenna on a Volvo looked a lott smaller than that... it right on the trunk lid and just the part that looks like half of an egg. and all the wiring hidden underneath.

I have a 2001 Pathfinder and my antenna is mounted on the roof and I get great reception. On my 99 Max I mounted the antenna on the back deck (inside the car) by the 3rd brake light. Reception is spotty and it cuts out much more. However, I would not advice mounting the antenna on the outside of your vehicle were it can been seen. It's an invitation to thieves that you car has an aftermarket stereo. I'm getting a 02 Max with a sunroof and may try mounting the antenna under the wind shield.

If u want to get better reception from the antenna...mount it ona metal plane and ground the plate to the car....it's going to get u better reception
