FrankenCar intake impressions after taking it off.

Hello guys,

I just recently took my FrankenCar Intake off after driving with it for 3 years.
I took it off because my lease was ending.

First impression is that the car is much quiter, which is kinda nice sometimes, but I really didn't like it cause u can't hear engine at all.

Second driving impression, I felt immediate drop in power. I know a lof of people on the board here said that FrankenCar intake almost did nothing as for power gains, and I always wanted to compare with stock intake. Now after I did it sure fells like I lost some power. And most importantly I thought lowered would not change but I felt like the car doesn't run as good to redline as it did before. It struggles sort of.

So definetly a good mod FrankenCar turned out to be, as I drove with it for 3 years, never had any MAF problems, and the car definetely feels faster with it.

Speaking of which my intake that I had on the car is now for sale. It is still in a very good shape and K&N filter as well.

As for me returning the Maxima, I kinda miss it already, but I ended up purchasing a Saab 9-5 Aero. Very sweet car, doesn't feel as powerful as my 2002 Maxima 6-speed did, but Aero is pretty close.

Sad to see a nice looking max go. But yes, the cone filter helps up top in the higher revs and well, i like to have some quientess, but a little grunt helps the butt dyno factor. Man your car is nice though. And you've been here for a long while ...

+1 Rep point to you!!!!

Thanks, man!!!! Yeah, I just feel so BURNED by the whole situation.

But he won't soon forget doing it. The idiot has the same name on eBay, Maxima, and carAudio.com

I WILL make sure his actions are known on any sale he tries to conduct there...I have already posted in all of his classifieds sections on all forums and will continue to do so until...well, who knows when.

2 yrs...2 blown MAFs. From my experience, it seems like vibration is the main cause of MY maf failures. It seems like if you install the intake parts touching each other...the greater vibration will blow the mafs. Now the connection between midpipe and the maf, I leave a small gap while securing it with the coupler...it seems to me if this two part is touching (in contact) with eachother, it will cause greater direct vibrations therefore maf failure. I'm on my 3rd mafs...I sure hope I'm right so I dont have to buy another one.

I'm using a bunch of rubber washers on both ends of the bracket for that reason... seems to have worked so far...

Dany.
Good luck with your Saab. I'm a Saab mechanic, but drive a Maxima.
9 -5 s are decent. Save money for repairs after warranty though.
