Aftermarket HIDS?

I hope this issue hasn't been on too many threads. If so I apologize. I tried to search but came up empty handed. My question is has anyone purchaced the aftermarket HIDS on ebay. I'm wanting to up grade to a brand new pair, but I don't want to pay the $1400 from Nissan. Are these basically built like the OEM HIDS and would I be able to clear them out and install DDE's w/o destroying them?

I heard the aftermarket ones tend to put that "faded-yellow" look on the lens like the '00-'01 headlaplamps. Also, the ballast and ignitor are different. I think they're made by Philips. If I were you, I would try to save your money and try to win some decent ones on Ebay. There are some legit sellers on Ebay that don't sell any "stolen" ones like some people, trying to make a fast buck.

Yeah I know about the stolen ones, I'm avoiding those, but it seem the only bids are for those aftermaket phillips.

Yeah, as far as those for $295.00 for the whole kit, they are aftermarket. That seller is on there all the time selling those. Don't waste your money. Buy the Nissan OEM's. Much better quality, ballasts, ignitors, and bulbs. The HID's will fit the '00-'01's with some modification of cutting and splicing the correct wiring. Also, new clips must be installed to make them fit properly.

You might be suprised to hear that on the Corvette forum for C4s like mine everyone is looking for an aftermarket retro fit kit for vettes but they really don't exist, not like the quality & reliability of the factory Nissan setup. There are some guys who sell you bulbs & balast sets but not a reflector for your vehicle so the bulbs just broadcast out in all directions. At least we have a choice here

nah i dont have them but i have the ebay projectors retro'd with HIDs and 350z ballast.

Philips ballast are not bad at all, they are OEM quality and are much better than xtec or xenon or wahtever else. It always confuses me as to why people buy these brands versus OEM ballast like philips, bosch, denso, or matsu****a for fogs. Anyways, sometimes people sell just the headlight housing that are Nissan OEM without ballast and d2r bulbs... but that can easily be bought. The empty headlights can sometimes be bought for $35 to $100 and ballast and bulbs can be as low as $200 in a package.
