Intake problems
I am a 3rd generation maxima owner, but i was helping out my old man put on a hybrid intake on his 2002 SE. We hooked everything up right, took all the stock airbox stuff out and when we went to start the car it acted as if it was struggling for air. What we have found is that the throttle body isn't opening all the way, so when you give it gas it isnt really moving enough. Anyone have any ideas on where we should start to solve this? We have been trying it without the filter just because that wont affect anything. There doesnt seem to be any leaks from the MAF back to the TB. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

what kind of "hybrid" intake is it? (brand of intake and filter)....
I can't think how the throttle body could be jammed, since it's throttle-by-wire (so there's no cable to stick).....I cringe at the thought that you could have blown or damaged the MAF somehow, which, when it happens, will not let the car rev up over a certain RPM....

I dont remember the kind of midpipe, and its a K&N filter. The throttle body opens if you move it by hand, like with the pipe off you can open it all the way. How much do MAF's run for the 5th gens?

yeah....check a few things...
1. that MAF and air temp. sensor are hooked up correctly
2. that there are no leaks in the intake
3. that there are no vacuum leaks anywhere
it really sounds like you blew/damaged the MAF though

The 02-03 maxima MAF is something like $300, though I believe you can use the 00-01 MAF also, which is under $100....don't quote me on that though

i think they figured out that with the right tool you can just remove that actual senson and just buy the sensor without the housing and its alot cheaper then the $400 sensor and tube(i think). like irish said dont quote me but i think i read that while back.

I don't have time to read through all these, but I did a search for you and here are some links to MAF threads that might give you more info. Don't quote me on price OR that it will work.

My thought would be to reset the ECU, being that you moved the E throttle by hand, it doens't like that.
But it looks like you got the MAF ... hmm should've tried the reset method 1st ..
And yogi is that a fact, and if so, do you have proof?

Actually we did try resetting the ECU first, so we tried everything that didnt cost money, so it really ended up at the MAF blew a few seconds after we started it up with the new intake.
