Do you simply remove the instrument cluster and switch those tiny bulbs behind the brownish screw type plastic thing?? Sorry about the description.

Heard autoillumination is associated w/ another led site that has screwed some people out of their orders or doesn't get the orders right. I think I saw a post about that somewhere up here yesterday.

Best bet is go on ebay and look for seller ctwick. He usually has the 3000mcd & 6000mcd blue led bulbs, along w/ other colors.

No, there are no bulbs to replace it with. Additionally, if you use an LED you will be left with a very dull localized blue color.

Thanks, man...I really appreciate it!

But for the time being, I spend every free moment I have working on these projects...my g/f is going to kill me if I don't have them done soon as I spend too much time working on them.

Silver, your inbox is full.

Did you use LEDs for this? Just curious, I need to know if I should stock up before your HOW-TO.

Thank you, thank you wait until the summer time..

I did this about 3-4 months ago, and I had a huge thread about it. I never made a write up because of the work involved in getting it to work. it took me about 2 weeks of planning and a extra gauge cluster to figure everything out.

you can get wither 74 or number 24, 194 is way too big..but they don't have number 24 in LED, but it doesn't matter..they all just bulbs.. i don't have a cemara..i can't take the pictures and post.. err

5th gen gauge mod

Yea, can this be done on 5th gens?
----> http://www.petah.org/maxima/gauge.htm

Cause i saw Metalmaxima's writeup on removing that backing to brighten the gauges up, (which came out real nice btw) and i was about to do that... but if possible i want have the white leds in there instead.

That's they way I did it, minus the LEDs. I think silver did his by using a prototyping board and white LEDs.

I think I am going to try this out this weekend.

If you have any success with this, post some pics. This dim display has got to go. I'm getting a extra gauge cluster from a scrapped 01 max to mess with before i eff with mine, especially since i have inspection due next month. I'm gonna do that writeup about taking off the blue backing in the meantime.

If anybody in New Jers can do this and make it look nice, gimme a shout if you want to make some money by helping me out. plus i'll compliment you on your skills
