fluid dripping by tranny and axle......

I was changing my oil in my 00 5spd today, inspecting the underside of thecar..... there was a little fluid dripping from where the front left axle meets the transmission. it appears to be clear-ish but its the same smell that i smelled when my friend ruined his eclipses axles. is this bad? its just a little fluid, not literally dripping off just a little running down the side of the tranny. something to watch or normal? no tranny problems but the reverse lockout from 5th gear is completely gone..weird. that happened the other day.

--109,000 miles on the max.

Thanks
