Warped Rotors or Misalignment

When I brake at highway speeds, around 55+, I feel the brake shudder and you can see the steering wheel shimmy back and forth very quickly. Is this a warped rotor problem or is my alignment off? I think it might be a warped rotor because when I brake lightly at around 20mph I can feel the brake grabbing and then letting go and then grabbing and letting go again.

Would an FSTB or RSB cause the shake? It started after I installed my rsb. Are my brackets not aligned maybe?

Any help is appreciated.

Yeah it sounds like your rotors are warped. Your dealer should machine them for you under warranty. If he gives you a hard time refer to the Technical Service Bulletin which you can find in the sticky thread area.

I just set a appt with my dealer for a brake inspection. He said the brakes are only covered up to 12000 miles since that is the break-in period for brakes and after that a warped rotot is considered wear and tear. I have 18000, does anyone know how much it costs? thanks

I would consider the brakes warping at 18K to be a manufacturing defect which is covered 3/36 .. if you have to contact Nissan Corporate.. do so before paying the dealer.

The TSB backs this up. Have them look up the TSB it clearly states they are covered for 3/36.

Open Internet Explorer and go to my website at http://apollo799.50megs.com/Pages/Maxima.htm
You can take this to the dealer as proof.

well

I thought I had a warped rotor too..I had just put my summer tires back on after taking off the snows. I took the car to the dealer...and they agreed based entirely on a short test drive. I subsequently took my car to my tire guy for balancing, and he told me I have one tire thats out of round..my Toyo Proxes. So he put that tire on the Back, and the front shudder was completely gone.I had the rotors replaced just the same..what the hell!
now I'm dealing with Nissan about replacind an egg shaped Toyo..yet I'm wondering if my RSB has caused it..hope not!
my point being..it could be the tire as well that might be causing the shudder
