hey i have a 2000 max and my stock headlights have that dirty look in them...like if it is stained yellowish or something like that...i think yall know what im talking about. does anyone have any tips or methods on taking that stuff out so the housing lens will be CLEAR again??

go to advance auto or pep boys and pick up meguires clear plastic cleaner and polish. use it as a 2 step process and they will look like new. obviously, if something is inside the lens, this will not help.

Wash the headlight to get rid of the bugs, residue, etc. Then use any of the stated polishes mentioned previously, such as Meguiar's Plastic M3 polish... Apply polish to dry towel and clean the light. Crystal clear will be the result...

I'm a professional detailer for Audi, Jeep, Subaru, and VW and I highly recommend 3M plastic cleaner and polish, its better than any other plastic cleaner on the market. Jeeps have that problem the worst out of any other cars.

Agreed.. the best and there is no sense in paying $18 and waiting on something to ship when u can go to any auto store or wal mart and get the stuff for under $6 and not have to wait for shippin

You are very welcome. I had those 00-01 stock lights and they stayed like that til I used the M3 polish. Now I have the HIDs and they never get like that. Oh well I use it every time I wash my car.. Good luck

Two words for you: Meguiar's PlastX....Holy smokes does that thing work!!! I have cleaned several yellow-looking headlights and you know what...they are now sparkling....Everyone has had great experience with the products they suggested above so you have a lot to pick from...Meguiar's PlastX is not that expensive (up in Montreal, a bottle is like 10CAD....~8USD) so may be it's worth checking out.

I tried a lot of these products and mine are still yellow. I took mine apart to do the AE headlight mod and did the inside as well, but only once as I was pressed for time. Wish I would have just waited and did it twice because they are back to yellowish looking again

when i took my headlight out to smoke them, i used windex to clean it and that was a mistake!!! now i can see this hazy residue, i think the chemical is reacting to the xenon heat. i have to redo this again with some plastic polish. will they reach to heat tho?

I haven't tried this on a Maxima yet, but in some other applications it's worked well... To clean out the inside without taking them apart try using a cleaner for a brass instrument. You can get them at any music (instrument) store and they're only a few dollars. It looks a little like a mini plumbing snake. It's a stiff metal wire with a brush on the end. You would want one with a really soft cleaning brush, not the coase stiff ones; that will scratch it, but the soft ones should work. You can bend the handle a little and stick it through the bulb hole to wipe out the inside. Just a thought...but it's easier than baking them and taking the plastic off...

My 2000 Maxima headlight, my driver side, was dirty aswell on the inside. To make it crystal clear this is what I did:

You'll need 1 gallon of distilled water, rubbing alcohol and dishwashing liquid. First, you pour about 2 cups of distilled water w/ a little bit of dishwashing liquid into the headlight, cover the holes with something so the water doesn't spill out ( I used papertowels ), shake the headlight for about 2-3 minutes. Next pour out the soapy water and then just used distilled water, about 2 cups each time, to clean out the soapy behinds. If by chance you still have soapy residue and not much distilled water left, just put the headlight under a shower head to get the rest of the soap out. After that is done, used whatever is left of the distilled water, and mix it with about 1/2 of rubbing alcohol, shake that around in the headlight for about 1-2 mins, and pour it out. Now you can either place the headlight upside down, holes facing floor, and just naturally let it dry, or if your like me and need it right away, find a hair dryer( mom's, sisters, girlfriend ) and just blow the heat inside either hole to dry out the water. **Make sure the headlight is completely dry otherwise you'll might get condensation maybe the next morning** That should do it, your headlight should be crystal clear inside.

Also, you don't need to take anything part, meaning the bulb shield within the headlight.

Use Pledge. Been using it for 12 years with the best of luck. Keeps the headlights crystal clear and makes the scratches more transparent(invisible). Use only on the outside. The parafinnichydrocarbons could yellow on the inside.
