Blown strut/shock sound?

I thought I heard it in one corner but now I think it might be in all four. It sounds like a hooting sound. I first thought it was a dog barking at first but obviously not. It happens on slightly bumpy terrain but isn't always there like when going over train tracks it doesn't happen.

The symptoms I don't have are any physical difference in the suspension feel. No excessive dip or dive although that might not be a change if they are blown. I have over 75k miles so this is a possibility but I just wanted to be sure they are blown. Is this the typical sound?

if its from the front part of the car, its probably just the stabalizer links that are broken. They are like 35 bucks each and are pretty easy to replace.

They get loose and make such an annyoing noise after a long time, so you just need to replace them.

Its like that on my car, it could be like that on yours, I am not sure though.

Most likely sounds like a strut. I've had 5 struts replaced on my car since owning it for almost 3 yrs. My cousin has an 03 Max and he's had 3 struts changed out so far. I think Nissan needs to better invest in their struts.

If I am positive they are the struts, and they aren't covered in my extended warranty -which I don't know - then I'll probably just get Tokico Blues to replace the stock ones, but I wan't to be sure.

2001SE (or anyone), would the stabalizer links cause the car to be (for lack of a better word) bouncy?

They should be covered under warranty. I've never had to come out of pocket for any of my struts. Its just an inconveniance, Im forever taking off from work and class to bring my car in. Loaners are outta the question with them or any Nissan dealer in NY that I've been to.

Digging up an old thread but it concerns the same issue.

I took my car to a Firestone for a warranty repair (I thought the dealer wouldn't look kindly upon my intake and RSB). Well these idiots are taking so long to get back to me but they told me one strut is blown. They will have to "special order" it, of course they wouldn't carry our struts in stock, but would a local dealer have struts for them to order in a day if it comes down to it?

Hey I have my OEM SE struts sitting in my garage if you want. You can have them for cheap. Plus I'm in Cleveland, so it won't be too expensive to ship.

i am not fixing mine. it's not that bad and it doesn't affect anything. control arms, inner tie rods, strut mounts.

The dealer is such a f'ucking joke. I brought it in and they fixed the sway bar links (they were rusted and broken). However, they failed to replace the front strut which is obviously blown (oil everywhere, rides like azz). I'm getting illuminas in two weeks so good riddance to the stock suspension.
