Sounds like it could very well be the transmission giving you problems. How many miles on the auto tranny? I was experiencing very similar issues with my 2k2 auto tranny with 80,000km's on it. If I'd come to a fast stop, then try to take off, the tranny would bang into gear, or take off very slow. Putting it into reverse wasnt an option either when this did happen.
I'd say keep driving the car and see if you hear or feel any weird tranny noises and get someone to scan your ecu again.

I eventually had my tranny replaced under warranty because I couldnt get out of 2nd gear. It was horrible that the tranny died so quick and suddenly, considering it was babied.

nismo064: your tranny has died. Mine did the same thing. Get a used one and have it installed (as opposed to having yours rebuilt). I know it sucks (actually it sucked my wallet dry), but it's definitly the problem. I thought mine was the MAF too until I tried to move in reverse.

MAF Sensor replacement

Can someone please post instructions on how to replace your MAF senor 2k-2k1 maxima? And do you have to reprogram your ECU after it's installed? If not, should you disconnect the battery during the installation?

MAXIMA.ORG guys....please make a sticky for this issue...seems like more and more people are having this problem!

For those looking for MAF sensor related links here's what I found so far:

1.) Picture, Price, & Part Number

2.) Where to Buy?

3.) People who replace MAF sensors?

Sorry. Didn't realize the milage. It's a warranty job. You're lucky!

Yeah I'd try and get that transmission warrantied before the powertrain warranty expires. I had a new tranny installed by my dealer with no charge to me. It only took 1 day to install too.

I think it shouldn't be a problem considering that you only did intake and exhaust mods... I don't think they cannot prove they caused the failure... Besides, any garage (even dealer) likes the warranty jobs, as they can claim a lot of things back to the company and make a few $$ out of it...

For those who have had their trannies failed, did you change the fluid often or at least followed the recommended interval? Did you use conventional ATF or Synthetic ATF? I have 67K on my 02 and the tranny runs fine; ofcourse as soon as I bought the car, I did an Amsoil ATF synthetic flush.

I got the car brand new and had replaced the tranny fluid every 25,000 kilometers (approx. 15,000 miles) with nissan tranny fluid. When I reached 60,000km's I switched over to Royal Purple MaxATF and the tranny died at 80,000km's (approx. 50,000 miles).

With the new tranny I got from Nissan under warranty, I'm going to stick with the stock nissan fluid and hope the tranny either dies right before the 130,000km extended warranty, or lasts me forever.

i just replaced all my fluids at 25k miles with BG fluid, and all those fluids have warantees on them, if the dealrship doesnt cover the tranny BG fluids cover 2000$ towards thee tranny so ill catch a break somewhere its just guna be a pain not being able to have a car for a while

I hope that works out for you. In order for BG, Amsoil, etc. to pay up someone has to prove that the fluid caused the damage. This is usually a legal case between the dealer/manufacturer and the fluid company and with all the lawyer and court fees etc., it's less expensive for Nissan to replace the tranny, even if the fluid is the cause of the damage.

Good luck!

The tranny install itself should only take 1 day of downtime on the car. Ordering the new tranny from Nissan took 2 weeks though.

NmexMAX - So I was off by 10K. Try not to act your age of 24. My point is that the tranny is under warranty. I would replace the tranny fluid with stock fluid and remove any aftermarket MODS and then take it to the dealer. You may even want to have your dad bring the car in. If they see MODS and an 18 year old guy they may try to blame it on you. Not fair but dealerships suck sometimes. If the dealer gives you guff then write a letter to Nissan (regional Office). I had a tranny go out at 10k pass the warranty and Nissan paid for half the costs. They want to keep you as a customer.

not sure if this is the spot for it... but I have a 2000 GLE ECU/ECM available. It's a rebuild that was guaranteed to work. I had it put in and it did work... 100%, but it didn't solve the problem (which was two fold... bad speed sensor and thermostat). Either way, i've kept my original ECU/ECM and looking to help someone else out. I paid $275 for but will part with it for the best reasonable offer i get... email enelius@yahoo.com if you are interested (or know somebody who would be)... thanks.... oh yeah... it's for a 2000 GLE w/o heated seats.

Trannys just dont die without some kind of warning...especially with low mileage. A bad MAF will cause the jerking feeling until the car gets warmed up. Check the codes and see if you have a lean/rich bank code.
