BERK Intake vs. FC Intake

i am wondering the difference of the 2...the berk is much less expensive...and berk claims about 12 hp and 14 tq gain to the wheels...i am wondering what numbers the FC puts out for a stock 5.5

if any of you have either, comments would be great...

berk is much better.. the intake is much lighter
i have berk and i love it...

and remember you wont get 12hp to the wheel if u only have intake..

same design...frankencar uses mild steel for mid pipe and powdercoat finish. Berk uses polished aluminum for mid pipe.

the intake with everything else does play a role, not a huge one, and not just an intake will give 12 horsepower to the wheels like said. Saying it does nothing is wrong though, and if you have alot of bolt ons, the intake will definatley be a improvement.

Berk and FC intakes are the same like everyone else said. Only difference is which one is in stock and ready to be shipped. Go for the one that is ready to be shipped to you. Only difference in price would be the filter. Most expensive filter is Apexi and most of the time is out of stock for both companies. I had to wait for a month for my Berk intake. But I can assure you, the wait is worth it.

I have the F/C and like everyone says, there the same, just make sure to get the A'pexi filter, or any "dry" filter, the oiled (K/N, etc) tend to cause more MAF problems, and IMO seem to get clogged quicker

They are almost the same thing....

I have a Berk with K&N... no issues for the 9K miles I've had it... bought it for $99 shipped when they were having a clearance sale. PM COBYMOBY (Bryan) if ya have questions.

i wouldnt say minimal, but its definetly a difference you can see
my friend has an 02 6 speed, base model, just like mine, he has a catback and timing mod
i have cattman muffler, pulley, timing and intake, and from roll on i pull on him with no problem, so there is a difference

i dont think they will lock this thread since there are countless noobs (new people) coming in all the time. its a great FYI for them.

i have a FC bought from prodigy, and its serving its purpose. I just need a apexi/k&n/jwt filter to replace the crappy s&b...

i hope cobymoby will chime in with another air filter gd.

someone with a 4th gen did a dyno comparison between an fc intake and the stock intake. aparently he lost a decent amount of midrange power after installing the fc intake.

The only true CAI is the Place Racing Intake. If your not going to get that, get the Berk. Had it for 6 months with no problems. Doesn't really give any gains, but sounds nice.

I think you're in the wrong thread ... It's Berk vs FC ... and no mention of cold air intakes anyplace in here...

The fact of the matter the mid-pipe does weird things with the power curve ... check franken car's website. It adds a little after 6k, shows a small dip about 5-5.3k

Who needs dyno charts to see if the intake is worth it? Whats to be proven, besides the fact you feel it improves the diriving situation. Counting ponies due to an intake is something for ricers to consider only... The big picture is improved throttle response, sounds good, and it looks cool. That's a good reason to buy an intake. Dissapointments over only 5.6 horsepower vs 7.8 horsepower means you should look for a "better" power adder besides these little bolt ons, which means people might be minsinformed about what their purpose is, or how to make the car more powerful.

The dyno proof of a "true" CAI, vs "fake" cai, or wai vs cai aint going to make
regret having that particular intake. It doesn't make me feel special that i spent more for 2 "apparant" horsepower less.

Bottom line: If your counting ponies, get nitrous or something... sheesh.

I think with any performance mod like intake, headers, exhaust, etc... individualy they usually add some HP but when used in conjunction with each other; that's when you start to see some improvement. I experimented with a few intakes and ended up with a Berk and love it. I added a y-pipe.... all he!! check my sig. My car isn't the fastest here but a WHOLE lot faster than when I bought it stock. The only true way to visually view any benefit from a mod is through the dyno if done properly.

There aint anything wrong with a dyno, it's a good way to see if you got gains, if you have smoething for comparison... Yet, proving an intake works to make it have some kind of retarded. What are people expecting? Magic ponies to fly out of the hood with the shiney new magic pipe humming and grunting your car to mega power upgrade extreme ++.

I'd dyno prove a car if maybe i was trying to demonstrate a new turbo system was showing a dramatic increase in horse power with tuning etc. What do you guys expect this intake is going to do? The dyno will make it OK? The intake is such a nominal power gainer, that trying to find discrepancies in people's dynos over the intake is a total waste of time. You think the guys with supra turbos need to dyno prove a K&n air filter ? That's what i'm trying to say here.

You guys are buying snake oil if your using someones dyno graph for an intake
for reference to what is does to the car.

Yet this is all my opinion... So whatever.

I agree with you entirely... and I have a Berk intake myself, didn't need a dyno to convince myself to get it, and could live w/o it since the gains are minimal.

The only reason I posted those links and that comment is because people are always claiming intakes gain XXX whp, this intake is better than that, my butt tells me my car pulls like crazy with it, my car is now faster than my buddy's, etc etc... just trying to give em some basis for comparison that's all... that's what I'm trying to say here...

Wow... you're definitely on a roll today.....

As long as I have something that lOoKz mAd tYtE y0 in my engine bay... who cares about the 2 whp?

well at first it was an intellectual conversation and i didnt need to add anything. i was waiting for it to get stupid and childish like it always does.

bottom line on ANY intake (including GAB!) -
performance gains - very minimal
sound - growl over 3K RPMs
looks - i admit intakes look cool in the engine bay
price - varies

so basically pick an intake based on how much you want to spend...everything else is the same
