Your opinions on clear taillights...

Hey...
What do you guys think about those clear taillights with black housing?

Im thinking about putting in red/amber bulbs in there, so its legal and people can actually see me braking... =)
Tried to use search to find something about this topic, but couldnt find anything....

Thanks....

well it wouldn't be legal even if you did have red/amber bulbs, because you have to have it REFLECT red...but if you want to take the chance, go for it...you shouldn't need our approval...IMO the 5.5 gen lights look the best on light colored cars when they're all red, and the 5th gen SE tails look the best on darker colored cars...

I thought the same thing about it being illegal....but I have seen the lexus rx 330 stock with clear tails and only red bulbs....this is the best pic I could find....

EDIT: I think that it might look good on a black car...I have seen them on a white car that drives around here and well...it doesn't look all that great to much white (or clear)....

I totally agree with you. I have a silver 2003 GLE, and the clear tail lights look great.

Keep em stock... Spend the money on a more useful mod such as performance or maintenance. Usually clear tails with red bulbs give off a bright PINK glow instead of RED due to the lack of red reflector material in the housing. Besides seeing as we're both from LA, don't give the LAPD/CHP a reason to pull you over...

the '02-'03 lights w/ all red lenses definatly look good, but if the orange part was white or clear that would definatly look sick

Ive only seen one that i really liked. It was the all clear one, BUT, the section for the brake light, they used the red tailight spray to red that part out, so it still reflected red, and the turn signals and reverse lights were still clear. Can't find a pic of it anymore tho.

get some paint and paint the 2k2-2k3 lights. With the clear lights, I'm not exactly sure how it would look. I've seen it on a silver car but with gray outlight, not black; it looked good

I don't like any of the tail lights for our cars. They all suck (especially the Stillen ones). I have been thinking about buying a set of those clear ones and fabricating some SEXY LED's. Any thoughts on LED patterns fellas (Lexus, Acura, Infinity, etc....)????

I have a black Maxima and stock 00 taillights (all red) just dont look good at all... Clear taillights would compliment the whole look of the car... However, talking about police, I just want to give them another chance.. =)

This so-called "debate" has been rehashed too many times. Soonerfan's answer is all the needs to be said.
