Whine from top of motor??
Whine from top of motor??
On my 2000 SE with 110,000 miles, I'm noticing a whine during all RPMs. Sounds similar to a bad bearing whine from the idler pully or a bad bearing in the alternator, but it's not. (A local mechanic checked both). He's suggesting something towards the top of the motor, maybe timing chain related (a worn guide, etc.). Has anybody had this problem and needed to have it fixed?
Unfortunately, they're giving me an 8 to 10 hour service rate to open up the motor and see what it is - YIKES! I keep hearing about how these motors go forever but I must be one of the unlucky ones.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! (And yes, I do keep up the regular maintenance; oil changes every 3000, etc.)
Thanks,
Bill

Thanx!!
