Under the dash there is a small soft spot perfect for drilling and pull all the plastic molding off the bottom of the cab and the carpeting needs to be pulled back as well. Remove the mid column with the seat belts and the rear seat and the rest should be a peice of cake took me 2 hours to wire the car to have sound.

I have an 02 and in the fender well there are holes that you can run the power lines through so you don't have to drill through the firewall which is a Bitcch. I had to remove my plastic fender well cover to get to the holes. The other wires can be run along the bottom of the door and under the seat. I pulled myseat which is very easy. You pull two tabs under the seat and it pops out. I also mounted my amps on the back seat that folds down.

WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT DRILL A HOLE IN YOUR FIREWALL! Traderfjp is correct. Take off the front driver's side tire and the plastic fender shroud. You will see the hole that goes to the engine bay. There is also a big rubber grommet that passes some of the car's wires into the car's interior. You can either poke a small hole in the grommet or just run your wire on the side of the grommet into the car.

Your wire should now be at the upper corner of the drivers kick panel. Just run the wire down the driver's side of the car, under the rear seat and into the trunk.

You seem adimant about not drilling through the firewall. Why? If I could do it again I would look into your method, but what is the problem. I drilled mine throught the firewall and put a gromit in place and have not had any problems.

I ran the power wire by the fender and through the hole where hood release cable runs through.

I guess the real question is why would you drill a hole through the firewall when you could simply run the wires through the fender without any headaches. You're not going to compromise the firewall with the hole you drilled. But when you take the chance of drilling into a wiring harness.
