Dynamat Under Hood and Sound Deadening

I did a search and couldn't find anything on putting dynamat (or similar material) under the engine compartment hood. So here we go. I saw a kit that is being sold for under 100.00 that is a sound deadening material to quiet the car (dynamat I believe) and a heat shield made of thin aluminum (like reynolds wrap but thicker) to protect the heat transfer to your paint.
I was wondering if anyone had tried this item and if it works?

Also, what are the top 4 places to add sound deadening material to quiet our cars? I already did the trunk and it made a difference.

Thanks in advance

dynamat is like tar, and will melt at high temperature, and will fall off your hood, and make your engine a sticky mess. so, dont do it.

Why do you wanna sound deaden your engine? Are you makeing a sleeper and dont want anyone to hear your turbo? Never heard of anyone sound deading their engine before plus your hood already has heat protection on it, you know that gray stuff on it thats what that is maybe your just going

Drive a Lexus, BMW or Benz- and tell me you don't notice the difference in noise reduction. I am planning on this as well, but I think the major gains would come from the firewall, floorpan and doors.

a lot of the interior noise you hear comes from the firewall, which is the 'wall' between you and your engine....i would think they would make something for you to put there (ie: something similar to dynamat, but able to withstand heat) I'm sure it would make a drastic difference on interior noise...but i believe that a lot of the noise is coming from the floorboard, so that's a good place to start....

I did 192 sq ft of Stinger Roadkill in an 01 SE recently. The entire trunk and trunk lid has multiple layers, the outer door shell as well as the door frame itself each got a layer, and the whole floor, rear deck, pillars, and basically everywhere else you can think of, got a layer. It was quite an expensive project and took me and the owner 25 hours to do (in 2 days), but it definitely made 100% improvement. I would start with the floor and doors though, since you already did the trunk.

This is good for stock people, but with on intake and any sort of exhaust mod, it wont make the difference to make it worth the cost.

i consider the sound from intake, exhaust, tires, and stereo to be a completely different category than what were talking about here. road noise is something transferred through the body of the vehicle, not coming from modifications causing an amplification.

easy, vato.

i was just saying that if youve got things like 19" wheels, catback, and 1200watts- dont bother trying to reduce the noise.

as a cheap alternative, spray adhesive and tar paper- for roofing- has been known to work very well. no joke. thats old school like toad stools.

I agree those cars are nice, personally i think they you should never put a lexus in with BMW or Bensez, Lexus = Toyota in a nice dress, so plz never ever put lexus in with those two or thats what you'll get. Those cars are for those that enjoy performance but not the sound of it.

Someone ban this guy for:
1. Bumping two 5yr old threads.
2. Posting the same thing in the two 5yr old threads.

My engine is very quiet (stock exhaust except for a test pipe) but the road noise even with reasonably quiet tires is pretty bad. I can see putting down some sound deadening material in the doors, trunk and under the carpet but not the engine compartment.

Call a roofing company?
Tile or wood shingles?

Bad enough to bump a really old thread, but I don't even understand the question.

That kind of question is best answered by your local body shops, not on some decentralized web forum. Start asking around locally until you find someone with answers.

As to all you Newbie Police (sic), how can you flame someone named Michelle who writes "I love happiness" in their sig? Seriously?

Flaming an innocent noob at Christmas... Bunch of Scrooges.

You know what, Troop? I just looked at her post history, and it reads like she's searching on rust repair and/or headliner issues.

There are 5 posts, all identical and strangely cryptic. Turns out this was a fail after all.

Ho ho ho, indeed. I have eggnog on my face.

Very bad and un needed mod
